Avis started school in Scribner, Nebraska. The family then moved to Dow City, Iowa and she attended the Dow City School. Avis married Leonard Fouts on August 10, 1942. The couple farmed In Gallands Grove and Dow City. They also lived in Greely, Colorado, Denison, Iowa and Carroll, Iowa. Leonard died on November 15, 1987. In the spring of 1988 Avis moved to Dunlap. Avis was a member of the Community of Christ in Dow City. Avis loved to travel and bowl. She also enjoyed antiques and learning about the stories the antiques held. Avis died on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 82 years and six days. Avis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; daughter, Linda Fouts; grandson Troy Anthony Fouts; three brothers, Jack, Bud and Bob Baber; and two sisters, Nell Jean Brasel and June Florence Bohacek. She is survived by her two sons, Jack Fouts and his wife Marilyn of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, Mike Fouts and his fiancée Marsha of Las Vegas, Nevada; one grandson, Brian Fouts of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; brother, Bill Baber of Derby, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends.
