A celebration of life was held at Hospice Bend-La Pine. Graveside services were held in Woodbine, Iowa. John was born on July 27, 1924 in Woodbine to Frank and Marie (Pollard) Pugsley. He graduated from Woodbine High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, after his discharge from the Navy. He married Lavonne Brookhouser in May, 1945 in Woodbine. John was the vice president of marketing for Tractor Supply Co. for many years. He later purchased the Hiawatha Farm and Home Store in Hiawatha, Kan. After he sold the business, he traveled and skied before moving to Bend, Or. in 1981. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, beekeeping, boating and water-skiing, Brittany dogs, travel, woodworking, playing cribbage, being a pilot and spending time with family. Survivors include two sons, Michael of Tacoma, Wash., and Kent of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Carol Stiles of Bend, Or., Kelly Ellsworth of Yorkville, Ill., and Beth Cummings of Woodbine; a brother, Jerry, of Beatrice, Neb.; 12 grand-children; and one great-grand-child. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim and Joe and a granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bend-La Pine at 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend, ORE., 97701.
