Janetta was born September 7, 1933, in Dunlap, Iowa to the late Frank J. and Edith K. (Kline) Benson. She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1950 and Jennie Edmundson Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Janetta married Richard Speight, Sr. on June 12, 1954, and to this union 2 sons were born. She was a registered nurse and retired as head nurse from Jennie Edmundson Hospital in 1973, after 20 years of service. Janetta was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and did volunteer work there for 10 years. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 1 brother, and stepfather, George W. Lyons. Janetta is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard F. Speight, Sr. of Council Bluffs; sons, Rev. Richard F. Speight, Jr. and wife, Kimberly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Steven H. Speight of Council Bluffs; 5 grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Sowers, Darla Cleveland and husband, Ron, all of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family, Monday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Service, Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary with Rev. Richard Speight, Jr., Janetta's son, officiating. A lunch will immediately follow at Broadway United Methodist Church. Memorials to Broadway Methodist Church preferred. A special thank you goes out to the nursing staff and doctors at Mercy Hospital for the wonderful care given to Janetta and to our entire family.
