Hall 2/25/12 - 4/19/07 Omaha World-Herald 4/22/2007 ATWELL-Doris M., 95 years. Tough as nails, yet onery and cantankerous best describes our mom! Born in Clarinda, IA on 2/25/12 to John and Katherine (South) Hall, Doris Marion was the oldest of 4 children. She attended school in Missouri Valley and married Jesse F. Atwell on 4/28/29. Doris and Jesse were married and lived on the family farm for 27 years until Jesse's sudden death in 1956. From this union, 3 boys were born, Dwayne, Jay and Brian. Doris continued to live on the farm after Jesse's death for almost 43 years, most of the time by herself, making a total of more than 70 years on the homestead. She was a hard worker and good cook who loved to attend the horse races in IA, NE, and SD. She told stories about doing fieldwork using a team of mules, hauling grain in the truck and cutting firewood in the timbered area on the farm. She looked forward to vacations in MT to visit her son, Jay and at the age of 85, she climbed into her car, all alone, and drove to Billings, MT! in 1 day arriving just in time for dinner. Doris passed away peacefully on 4/19/07 in the Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 95. A special thanks is extended to the staff at Pleasant View for their caring support and kindness during her time there. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jack, Donald and Joy (Babe) Hall. Doris is survived by her sons, Dwayne Atwell and wife, Cheryl, AZ, Jay Atwell and wife, Katie, Billings, MT, Brian Atwell and wife, Sara, Little Sioux, IA; 9 grandchildren. Visitation with the family Sun., 4/22/07, 6-8 PM at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley. Services Mon. 11 AM at Funeral Home. Interment Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, IA. There will be a reception at the Junction Cafe following the Committal Service.
