Birks, 80, Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Missouri Valley, died Feb. 27 at Park Ridge Nursing Home, Jacksonville. Manley was born Jan. 10, 1927 to R. Clay Birks and Garphelia (Knauss) Birks in Logan. Manley graduated from Logan High School in 1944 and graduated as a Machine Specialist from Hawkeye School of Technology, Waterloo. Manley married Susanna Vredenburgh at the RLDS Church in Pisgah, June 6, 1948. He was a member of Community of Christ Church, Saint Luke's Metropolitan Community Church, Independent Order of Foresters, Logan alumni, and P.F.L.A.G. Manley retired as a water plant operator for the City of Missouri Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James. Survivors include: wife, Susanna (Sue), Glen Saint Mary, Fla.; son, M. Clay Birks and his partner, Carl Moser, Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Rosalie and her husband, William Probasco, Woodbine; brother, Eugene and his wife, Sharon, Birks, Kalispell, Mont.; sister-in-law, Muri! el Birks, Sioux City; grandchildren, Alan and Candy Birks, Amanda Conroy; great-grandchildren, James and Tina Conroy, all of Independence, Mo. A Memorial celebration of Life will be held March 31 at 5 p.m., followed by a covered dish meal and music and dancing. In lieu of flowers, there will be a gold engraved leaf put on the Tree of Life, or memorials to P.F.L.A.G., Jacksonville.
