She attended county school and the Dunlap High School. Lela worked for Henry & Jennie Baxter on their farm. Lela married their son, Russell, December 29, 1940. The couple farmed east of Woodbine. In the early 1970s the couple moved to California. They moved back to Woodbine in the mid 1980s. Lela loved to garden, cook, eat out, play cards and solve puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling. Lela died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and nine days. Lela was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; and an infant sister. She is survived by her four sons, Dennis Baxter and his wife Carolyn of David City, Nebraska, Gary Baxter and his wife Vickie of Omaha, Nebraska, Ronald Baxter and his wife Gennie of Antioch, California, Wayne Baxter and his wife Janice of Omaha, Nebraska; three daughters, Connie Bauman of Fairfield, California, Sharon Cooper and her husband Roy of Omaha, Nebraska, Linda Schuetz and her husband Joe of Glendale, Arizona; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grand-children; sister, Altha Black of Longview, Washington; special friend, Bob Katzenberger of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Baxter, Lela Jean The Daily Nonpareil 12/14/2006. Lela Jean Baxter, age 83, of Woodbine, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She is survived by her four sons, Dennis (Carolyn) Baxter of David City, Neb., Gary (Vickie) Baxter of Omaha, Neb., Ronald (Gennie) Baxter of Antioch, Calif., Wayne (Janice) Baxter of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Connie Bauman of Fairfield, Calif., Sharon (Roy) Cooper of Omaha, Neb., Linda (Joe) Schuetz of Cleardale, Ariz.; sister, Altha Black of Longview, Wash. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Methodist Church in Woodbine. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine.
