C 29th Iowa Obeys Last Command... Passed Away at Omaha. Another respected citizen of the community, a veteran of the Civil War in the company dear to the hearts of our people, C of the 29th Iowa has answered the last bugle call and now rests with so many, of his comrades in the last sleep. He was born February 11th, 1841, in Warren county, OH. His father died when he was a child, but with his mother came to Council Bluffs about the year 1852. He attended school in that city a few years and later in this township. At the age of 17 he started to work for himself which he continued until 1862 when he enlisted in Co. C at Magnolia and served until he was discharged at New Orleans in 1865. He was mustered out at Davenport. At the close of service he went to Woodbine where he entered the woolen mill and learned the trade of a weaver. Five years later he began farming in Jefferson township and by hard work and economy he acquired 360 acre of land in this and Cass township. He retired from active farm work in 1911, but remained on the farm which he had fitted up with all of the convenciences. He was married in 1868 to Elizabeth Keairnes and to this union eight children were born--Mrs. Laura Armstrong, George, Mrs Bessie Daughtery, Verne, Jessie, Maud and Mrs. Irene Haner, most of whom with the wife survive to mourn the loss of a good father and faithful companion. Mr.Beedle was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge and the G. A. R, a good citizen and an honest man. He died in an Omaha hospital of uremi! c poisoning after about ten days of illness.
