She was born May 9, 1919, in Dallas, S.D., daughter of Charles Stone and Jessie Wynn Kingsbury. She attended public school in Dallas, S.D., until her senior year in high school. She then attended All Saints' Episcopal School for Girls in Sioux Falls, S.D., graduating in 1936. She continued to work at the school for room and board while she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, where she was a member of the Augustana College Choir. She graduated cum laude in 1940 with a B.A. degree in English and French and a minor in Latin. Mrs. Moore taught elementary school for one year at the Blue Ridge Industrial School near Charlottesville, Va., and then taught high school English and Latin at Artesian, S.D., and Arlington, S.D. She worked for the Department of Labor in Washington D.C. before moving to Omaha, Neb., in 1943! , where she was employed as a clerk-typist for the U.S. Army Seventh Service Command for the remainder of World War II. She later worked as a secretary for the Great Western Construction Co. in Omaha. She married J. Dean Moore on June 21, 1946, in Sioux Falls, S.D. (He preceded her in death on July 4, 1988.) In 1947, she and her husband moved to Dunlap, Iowa, where her husband opened the first of what would eventually be thirteen Moore Bros. Super Market grocery stores in western and southwestern Iowa. In 1958, the family moved to Carroll, Iowa, where Mr. Moore owned and managed the Moore Bros. Super Market until he retired in 1982. Mrs. Moore worked at the Carroll Public Library from 1967 until retiring in 1982. She was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Carroll, serving for many years on the Altar Guild and in many other capacities at the church. She was a member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary for more than 25 years, and was active in Clio Club, Ro! und Table, Republican Women, Friends of the Carroll Public Library, an d Red Cross blood drives. She is survived by two sons, Christopher (Kathy) of Spotsylvania, Va., and Steven (Janice) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a daughter, Mitzi (Robert) Uyemura, of Ballwin, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Coddington of Sunnyside, N.Y., Meghan Moore of Triangle, Va., Leah Moore of El Paso, Texas, Jill Moore of Coralville, Iowa and Owen and Ethan Uyemura of Ballwin, Mo. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Katherine Nazzaro, Maria Lyon, and Wynn Morris and a half-sister, Lydia Jostes. Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Carroll at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2007, with inurnment following immediately at Carroll Cemetery. Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Church, Carroll Public Library, the J. Dean and Ruth Kingsbury Moore Scholarship Fund at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D., or the charity of! the donor's choice.
