During her school years sister became proficient in piano, organ and playing the violin. She especially loved playing the violin. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation on September 6, 1942 and professed her perpetual vows on May 3, 1948. Sister Alice Marie received a bachelor of music degree in piano from Loras College, Dubuque, and studied voice at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Her music-teaching career, spanning 43 years, took her to Farley, Mason City, Algona, Lawler, Clare, Storm Lake, Key West, Sheldon, and Bankston, all in Iowa, Timber Lake, S.D., and Monticello, Minn. She taught piano, organ, violin, voice, and classroom music to grades K-8, and also taught private music lessons. She enjoyed working with parish choirs and training cantors for liturgies. She always said it was a pleasure to teach music wherever she was as! signed. Sister Alice Marie retired to Mount Loretto Motherhouse in 1989 in Dubuque and celebrated her Diamond (60) Jubilee in 2003. In retirement she continued with community service and prayer and her love of knitting, crocheting and other handicrafts until her death October 2, 2006. She will be remembered for her gift of musical ability, good conversationalist and cheerful availability to others. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Penelope (Nelle) Pearson and Mary Burke; brothers, Francis, Wayne (Bob), Ralph (Bud), and Eugene. She is survived by her brother, Mike Crilly of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sisters, Eileen and her husband Cliff Renneker of Correctionville and Pauline and her husband Roy Sorensen of Bancroft, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Lucille Crilly of Dunlap and Bernadine Crilly of Sioux City and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass was held October 6, 2006 at Mount Loretto in Dubuque, Iowa. Interment was made in Dubuque. Respectfully submitted for other researchers. ©The Dunlap Reporter 2007
