Walker, 92, Newton, formerly of Missouri Valley, died Oct. 17 at the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center, Newton. Lois Irene Walker was born to Lacey and Fern (Robinson) Horn, April 17, 1914 in Newton. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the Class of 1931. She was united in marriage to Calvin B. Walker in Galena, Ill. in 1935. Together they lived in various towns for 38 years. They owned and operated Walker Funeral Home in Missouri Valley for 22 years. After retiring in 1973, they returned to Newton. Lois was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton and the AO Chapter, P.E.O. Lois loved her family and was active and interested in everything until her death. She loved to sew, do crossword puzzles and was a fan of Sudoku Puzzles. She enjoyed reading, especially her morning newspaper. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Calvin B. Walker, brother David Horn, sisters-in-law Gen Horn and Virginia Horn. Survivors include: her son, Jim Walker, Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Julianne and Austin (Rick) Hall, Newton; grandchildren, Thomas Dean (Judy) Rodewald, Penny Lee (Todd) Esrey and Susan Rae (Troy) Esrey; great-grandchildren, Jacob Esrey, Kyle Esrey, Katie Rodewald, Anna Rodewald, Gavin Rodewald, David Esrey, and Adam Esrey, brothers Joe Horn, Herbert (Sue) Horn; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Services were held Oct. 20 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Newton. Memorials have been designated to Hospice of Jasper County.
