Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA July 4th, 2004 MISSOURI VALLEY - R. Gerald Smith, 80, of Missouri Valley died July 2 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. He was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Missouri Valley to Emmett and Rose Ann (Moss) Smith and married Eileen McElderry Dec. 26, 1943, in Blair, Neb. He farmed in Pottawattamie and Harrison counties all his life. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting. He and his wife, Eileen, had been married for 60 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Gayle Gorham and husband, Sheldon, of Greeley, Colo.; two sons, Jerry of Council Bluffs and Steve and wife, Marsha, of Missouri Valley; a sister, Elaine Taylo of Missouri Valley; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The body will be cremated.
