Griffith, 84 08/25/2004 Mary Helen Griffith, 84, Missouri Valley, died Aug. 12 at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital, Missouri Valley. Mary was born June 9, 1920 in Panama to William and Helen (Kean) Croghan. She attended and graduated from Modale High School. She also graduated from Mercy Hospital nurses training in Council Bluffs, as a Registered Nurse, in 1944. She married David M. Griffith May 22, 1946 in Panama, and they farmed in Harrison County. They moved to Missouri Valley in 1980. Helen worked in hospitals in Council Bluffs and retired at Community Memorial Hospital, Missouri Valley in 1981. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Missouri Valley. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) and Helen Croghan, a son, Marion, and brothers Peter and Joe, and sister Elizabeth Kohles, and sister-in-law, Katherine Croghan. She is survived by her husband, David; sons, William F. (Bill) Griffith, Gretna, Neb.; and Paul Griffith and his wife, Marian, Hughesville, Pa.; daughter, Beth Moore, and her husband, Randy, Missouri Valley; sister, Bernadette Kirlin, Des Moines; brothers, James Croghan and his wife, Kathy, Washington, D.C.; Jerome Croghan, Manning; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Croghan, Manning; and Adelaide Croghan, Manning; brother-in-law, James Kohles, Harlan; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Missouri Valley, Aug. 16, Rev. Fr. Bob Harris, celebrant. Organist was Lyle Waterhouse, vocalist was Elizabeth Dillinger. Casket bearers were Pat Croghan, Douglas Sublett, Jerry Croghan, Gerald Kohles, Joe Kirlin and Phil Croghan. Interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Missouri Valley.
