Irene Dougal, 88, of Dunlap died Sunday, November 12, 2000, at the Burgess Health Center in Onawa. Irene was born on April 11, 1912 in Floyd Co., to parents Emil Ernest and Emma (Smith) Lessin. She graduated from Floyd High School in 1930. She then attended Business College in Mason City. Irene worked at Salisbury Laboratory in Charles City. On November 24, 1937, Irene married Lloyd Dougal in Charles City. The couple lived in Charles City until moving to the Dunlap area where they farmed. Lloyd died on July 15, 1991. She was a member of Dunlap First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Friendly Neighbors Club, Tuesday Morning Coffee Club and an honorary member of the Dunlap Historical Society. Irene donated the Dougal House to the Dunlap Historical Society. Irene liked antiques, quilting and other handiwork. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lloyd and a brother, Ray Lessin. Irene is survived by a son, Ronald and Carol Dougal of Redwood, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara and Jim Donnelly of Woodstock, Ill., and Francine and Robert Krapp of Des Moines; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Iola Washburn of Des Moines and other relatives and friends. Memorials may be given to her church or the Dunlap Rescue Unit. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, November 14, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church in Dunlap. Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Musician was Barbara Amsberry and vocalist, Max Poe, sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." Interment was made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Pallbearers were Leonard Bolton, Harold Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Denny Lehan, Ray Lyman, Murlyn Ronk. Fouts Funeral Home of Dunlap and Woodbine was in charge of arrangements.
