Shurmaine McAlpine officiating. Musicians were Margaret Cotton, Bill Hutcheson and Max Poe. Selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden." Interment was made at Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Pallbearers were John Benedickt, Scott Ganzhorn, Forrest Johnson, Dwight Mills, Ralph Pauley, Dennis Sharp. Frances Darlene Poitevin was born September 2, 1913, to Leslie and Emma (Wiggins) Poitevin at her parent's home near Dow City, Iowa. Frances graduated from Dow City High School in 1932 and attended college in Cedar Falls for one year. She spent a number of years working in La Jolla, California, Seattle, Wash., and several summers in North East Harbor, Maine as a maid. While living in Maine, she was given a ride to the store by John D. Rockefeller. However, she didn't realize who he was until after the ride. She returned to Woodbine in 1959, living with and helping her parents. Her father died in 1960 and her mother in 1975. Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodbine. She loved her flowers and her garden. She had around 80 peony plants; with her first one given to her by Herbert White in 1966. He gave her some lilacs the same year. Frances died on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 93 years, one month, and eight days. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Howard; three sisters, Mildred, Grace, and Lois; and niece, Barbara. She is survived by her sister, Ferne Sharp of Woodbine, Iowa; nine nieces and nephews; and many other friends. Respectfully submitted for other researchers ©The Dunlap Reporter 2006
