S. JEWELL IS CALLED Long Time Resident, Veteran of the Civil War Answers the Summons "Taps". Highly Respected A. S. Jewell, a long time resident of Logan, passed away at his home here Saturday morning, April 27th after a long illness with great suffering. He was born in Cass county, Michigan, March 6, 1843, hence was 76 years, one month and 21 days old when called to his rest. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Jewell and with his parents came to Harrison county when he was but nine years of age. He enlisted in the Union army in March 1862, and served his country in the Fifteenth Army Corps in Col. Crittenden's regiment. After the war he returned North and on the 9th day of September, 1866, he was married to Miss Clara E. Bunton in Mercer county, Missouri. Shortly after they moved to Harrison county and this has since been their home, except for a short time spent in the Dakotas. To them eleven children were born, and seven of them are living to mourn the loss of a father and cherish the memory of his well spent life. The living children are Charles Cyrus, Donzella Maude Kah! ler, Frederick Eugene, Letta Elvira Jones, Lester, Mabel Leonard and Blanche Norris. There are 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, besides the wife left to mourn the passing of this good man, citizen and friend. He became ill in December, 1917, steadily growing weaker until the time of his passing away, April 27th. The funeral service was held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon, at 3:30 conducted by Rev. F. K. Hargrove assisted by E. E. Clayton. The quartet of the Christian church sang "Abide with Me," and several other songs. The pallbearers were comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic of which the deceased had long been a faithful and active member. The body was laid to rest in Logan cemetery in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. Mr. Jewell had long been a respected citizen of Logan. He was honest, industrious and excersied the principles of thrift and economy to the end that he accumulated considerable property. He was hone! st and square in all his dealings, a good example for many a man to fo llow. He had many frineds in this county who sympathized with him during his long period of suffering and extend their sympathy and commiseration to the bereft family.

S. Jewell Mrs. Clarissa Elvira Jewell, widow of Almeron S. Jewell, long a resident of Logan, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lettie Jones, in Council Bluffs, Tuesday, of heart trouble. She had been ill but a few days. Mrs. Jewell was born in Ohio, but was a resident of Logan for many years. She was a kind motherly woman and all who knew her respected and loved her. She was the mother of several children, all of whom spent part of their childhood and school days here. There are three daughters and three sons surviving, Mrs. Claude Norris, of Strahan, Iowa, Mabel Leonard of Canada, Mrs.Jones at whose home she was living at the time of her death. The sons are Charles of South Dakota, Fred of Crescent, and Lester in Canada. Mr. Jewell passed away several years ago. The funeral will be held at the Logan cemetery this afternoon, where the interment will take place. Mrs. Jewell had many friends in Logan and she will be knidly remembered by all. Born March 13, 1922, in McClelland, Iowa, to the late Ralph Giles Goodman and Delia Goodman, she was a lifetime resident of this area. She was a homemaker and was a former employee of Richman Gordman for 12 years. She and her husband, George D. Wilson, observed their 70th wedding anniversary on September 2. Both Flossie and George are well known for all the produce they raised and sold at the farmers market for 30 years. Flossie was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 7 brothers. Survivors besides her husband include sons, Walter L. And wife, Farrel A., Missouri Valley, Iowa, Robert D. And wife, Shirley, Council Bluffs, Thomas H., Wentworth, Mo., Keith L. And wife, Theresa M., Louisville, Neb.; daughter, Karen A. Berner and husband, Gary A., Wentworth, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home, Pastor David Erickson, officiating. Interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at First Christian Church. Memorials may be offered to that church.
Can someone do a look-up of an obit or even death/burial record for Peter W. McGinn who died in Harrison Co. in 1939 please? His wife's name was Ann or Annie, bu I don't know her maiden name. They married about 1876 in Iowa; he was born in Canada in 1852; the family was Catholic. Any help is appreciated.

The family resided at Pisgah, Iowa, for two years before moving to Denison, Iowa, where Barbara received her elementary education at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. From 1944, until returning to Denison in 1947, the family resided at St. Petersburg, Florida, where Barbara's father served as a dentist in the service. After returning to Denison, Barbara was graduated from high school with the class of 1947. Following high school she worked for her father in his dental office. On August 19, 1950, Barbara was united in marriage with Neal G. Moeller at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Their union was blessed with seven children, Gregory, Dale, Clair, Michael, Annette, Mary and David. With the exception of one year, 1954-55, while Neal served in the military at San Marcos, Texas, they made their home in Denison. Barbara's married life was spent as a full time homemaker and mother. She was an active participant in her children's lives, serving as a Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother and a baseball mother, organizing the concession stand for many years. Her entire life revolved around her family and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and, had a great interest in genealogy, studying, researching, and recording, her family's history to preserve for generations to come. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and the St. Rose Ladies Guild, having served as their president in years past. Other memberships she enjoyed include Crawford County Historic Preservation and Crawford County Genealogical Society. In 2000, Neal and Barbara had the privilege of celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Barbara died Thursday afternoon, October 19, 2006, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 77 years, 1 month and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Merle and Louise Servoss. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband of over 56 years, Neal G. Moeller of Denison, Iowa; seven children and their spouses, Gregory A. And Barbara J. Moeller of Des Moines, Iowa; Dale T. And Helen M. Moeller of Buffalo, New York; Clair J. And Donna M. Moeller of Hudson, Wisconsin; Michael G. And Jane L. Moeller of Lake City, Iowa; Annette M. And Kelly Salsbery of Nacogdoches, Texas; Mary S. And Daniel B. Eiten of Denison, Iowa; and David N. And Darcy L. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2006, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul J. Kelly as Celebrant with The Rev. Gene Sitzman as Con-Celebrant. Others participating in the mass included Christian Symbol Placers, Neal G. Moeller, Gregory, Dale, Clair, Michael and David Moeller, Annette Salsbery and Mary Eiten; Servers, Casy Curnyn and Randy Patino; Lector, Gregory Moeller; Gift Bearers, Jillian Moeller and Kathryn Moeller; and Eucharistic Ministers, Jane Moeller and Barbara Jean Moeller. Music for the mass included a flute recording of "Amazing Grace", vocal solo, "The Our Father" with Cheryl Brodersen as soloist, and St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing, "How Great Thou Art", "You Are Mine" "Psalm 42, As The Deer Longs" and "O Loving God" with Jean Cornelius serving as accompanist. Pallbearers included Barbara's grandsons, Neal T. Moeller, Carl J. Moeller, Thomas M. Moeller, Paul J. Moeller, Carsten! D. Moeller, Matthew B. Eiten and Daniel N. Moeller. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone to return to the Parish Center and join them for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. Visitation was held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison from 3:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2006, with a Legion of Mary Rosary, led by Cecelia Arnold and Richard and Rosemarie Penn, was held at 4:00 p.m. And a Parish Vigil Service, led by the Rev. Paul J. Kelly, was held at 6:00 p.m. A memorial has been established to St. Rose of Lima School. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements. Milo was born June 30, 1918, in Moorhead, Iowa, to Mike and Hannah (Severson) Nelson. Milo served in the Army during W.W. II. He lived most of his life in Omaha working at City Glass Co., The Paxton Hotel, and Yellow Cab. He and his wife, Mary, moved to Council Bluffs where they both worked at Hill's Bar and Grill. Milo was a member of Eagles 38 in Omaha, and the American Legion. He loved music, dancing, gambling but above all, his friends and family. Milo is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (1989); son, Gale (1982); daughter, Helen (1966); four brothers, five sisters. Milo is survived by daughters, Teresa Nelson of Council Bluffs and Mila Cappelli of Livorna, Italy; step-son, John Futtrell; sister-in-law, Pauline Peacock; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. At Henry-Livingston Funeral Chapel. Jensen Sept. 11, 1941. They moved to the Missouri Valley area in 1949 and she remained there until she moved to Westmont in October of 2005. Mable worked as a cook at Sunny Side Café., the Tamarack, Franklin's Café and Rath Inn. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, tulips and house plants. He was married to Karen Bonham Aug. 14, 1993. Kenneth graduated from Tri-Center High School in 1960 and attended Dana College in Blair, Neb. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a charter member of the Missouri Valley FOE 3876 and served as president and past president. He was also a member of FOE 3876 Joint Memorial Team and served as treasurer and trustee. Kenneth spent his years in the agricultural business working with Cargill, Valley Fertilizer, Terra and King Agri Sales. He retired July 28, 2006. He loved going to Arizona in the wintertime, cooking, playing cards and going to his grandchildren's baseball games. Survivors include his wife Karen of Missouri Valley; son Perry Fulfs and wife Holly of Seattle, Wash., daughter Deanna Radcliff and husband Dan of Palmyra, Va.; brother Ben Fulfs of Missouri Valley; step-sons Gail Hatcher and wife Cheryl of Council Bluffs; Monte Hatcher and wife Michelle of Logan; three grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. (Sherry) Wilson, 75, Palm Desert, Calif., died at her home Oct. 10 after a brief illness. Sherry was born Oct. 23, 1930 in River Sioux, the fourth of six children born to Ralph and Anna Anderson. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1949. She relocated to southern California to pursue a career with United Airlines as a flight attendant, married, and settled in Burlingame, Calif., to raise her family. She then lived at Boulder Creek, Calif., and most recently at Palm Desert, Calif. Sherry was an avid golfer and tennis player and a member of the Palm Desert Greens Golf and Country Club. She is fondly remembered as the "hostess with the mostest," and enjoyed entertaining and bringing those she loved together. Survivors include: her husband of 53 years, Robert D. Wilson, Palm Desert, Calif.; children, Robin Watson and Craig Wilson; she was special mother-in-law to John and Debbie and devoted grandmother to Diana, Jeanene and Christie Harlick, and Ju! stin and jenny Wilson. Area survivors include: her sister, Marian Richardson, Missouri Valley; brother, Paul Anderson, Omaha; sister, Pauline McColley, Omaha; and many nieces and nephews. No funeral services are planned. The Neptune Society is handling her cremation. Honoring Sherry's wishes, there will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Hospice Odyssey House at 71-777 San Jacinto Drive, Suite 102, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270. Dell was born on August 3, 1916, to Michael and Jessie (Jenkins) O'Day in the Galland's Grove area northeast of Dunlap. Dell attended Galland's Grove Country School. He then began farming with his parents. Dell married Ruth Hartwig on March 21, 1937 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Harlan. The couple farmed in the Galland's Grove area on Dell's parents' farm. The couple moved into Dunlap in mid 1970s. Dell was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He particularly loved farming and his "B" John Deere tractor. Dell also loved horses and he was especially interested in racehorses. Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, Hubert, Tom, Bill, Mort and John; one sister, Marguerite O'Day; infant daughter; and daughter, Shelley O'Day-she was 18 years old and had Cerebral Palsy. Survivors include his wife, Ruth O'Day of Dunlap, Iowa; son, Bill O'Day and his wife Bonnie of Dunlap, Iowa; two daughters, Peggy and her husband Kenny Wilke of Omaha, Neb., Pat and her husband Gary Schmidt of Harlan, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters-in-law, Edith Jenkins of Woodbine, Iowa and Rita Hartwig of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday morning, October 25, 2006, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap at 10:30 a.m. with Father Paul Strittmatter officiating. Musicians were Marilyn Grote and Jerry Baldwin. Selections were "How Great Thou Art," "Wind Beneath My Wings," "Grandpa" and "Danny Boy." Interment was made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Honorary pallbearers were Giselle Wilke, Terri Talacko, Brenda Fahle, Belinda O'Day, Benita Foley. Pallbearers were Kevin Wilke, Brad O'Day, Brett Schmidt, Bart Schmidt, Tom O'Day, Fritz Baldwin. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial was made at St. Joseph Cemetery. Reverend Kenneth Kuntz officiated. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa, 1570 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. Regina was born on July 3, 1917 in Dunlap, Iowa to Edward and Ellen Houlihan Houston. She married Ralph Aschenbrenner in Dunlap, Iowa on June 3, 1946. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Dunlap, Iowa, and attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. Regina taught in rural Iowa schools for a few years and then moved to Iowa City where she taught for many y! ears. Regina was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was very active in church activities. She enjoyed playing bridge and exercising at the fitness center. Regina has lived near her daughter, Jean in an Alzheimer's Residence for the past four years and has appreciated frequent family visits. She greatly enjoyed the family reunion that her children organized in July of this year. Regina is survived by her children, Jean Aschenbrenner of Boulder, Colo., John and wife Susan of Urbandale, Iowa, Mary Collins of Rapid City, S.D., Barbara Manderfield and husband Jerry of Medellin Columbia, South America, Patricia Abeling and husband Tony of LaHabra, Calif.; her sister, Lucille Houston of Cannon Beach, Ore., and her grandchildren, Kate, Kristin, Erich, Melissa, Jonas, Nick, Joel, Bryce, Cara, Kelley, and Shannon. Hansen, 81, of Moorhead Iowa, died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. Stanley was born February 21, 1925 at Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Anton and Sigrid (Hansen) Hansen. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1942 and joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. He worked with his father and brother in the Hansen Blacksmith Shop, which served the community for over 75 years. In 1948, he married Margaret Millard from Hawarden, Iowa. She was teaching at Moorhead at the time. They had two children, Mike and Debra. Margaret died in 1968 after a long illness. In 1969, he married Norma Pedersen. She had three daughters, Deborah, Janis and Kristin. Norma died in 1983. Stan was active in the Moorhead Community. He was on the fire department, acting as chief; helped organize the rescue squad in 1975 and served as rescue chief; was president of the school board and served on the Moorhead State Bank Board. He was active in the Moorhead Christian Church and previously the Soldier Lutheran Church. He was a member, and served as commander for two years, of the American Legion Peter A. Hansen Post #565; served, acting as chairman, on the County Board of Health and was with the Monona County Special Deputies. Stan enjoyed singing very much and sang in several quartets, beginning in the 1950's. In later years, he sang with the Noteables, a men's chorus in Woodbine, Iowa. He also was a seven-gallon blood donor. Survivors include a son, Mike (Colleen) Hansen of Parks, Ariz.; four daughters, Deb (Daryle) Lauritsen and Kristin (Mark) Johnson all of Moorhead, Janis Pedersen of Papillion, Neb., and Deb Scott of Adel, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Juhl (Bernadine) Hansen of Moorhead; two sisters, Hope Nielsen of Onawa and Mary Lou (Robert) Kaveny of Novato, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Lorayne Hansen; a special friend, Joyce Hanson of Ute, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Hansen; a brother, Paul Hansen; a brother-in-law, Howard Nielsen; a nephew, Rodney Hansen and a niece, Rhonda Cline. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006, at Moorhead Christian Church with Rev. Ron Keith officiating. The congregation sang, "How Great Thou Art," "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" and "Beautiful Savior." The Noteables sang a selection of songs, Connie Anderson was pianist and Mary Lou Kratz was organist. Burial was made in Spring Valley Cemetery, rural Moorhead. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Peter A. Hansen Post #565. Casket bearers were Aaron Hanson, Beckie Kelly, Matthew Barron, Adam Robertson, Ryan and Jared Miller, Kimberly and Jennifer Lauritsen, Sam, Jake, Sarah and Anna Zwiefel and Danielle and Heather Johnson. He attended country school near Dunlap and farmed with his parents. Marvin married Frances Johnson January 19, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Woodbine. He continued farming and also worked at the filling station and the Chevy garage. Marvin then worked for the Harrison County REC as a lineman for over 30 years ~ retiring in 1994. He also went into the construction business with Bill Harris. The two formed Harris-Malone Construction and built and remodeled many houses as well as doing electrical and roofing work. Marvin loved to fish and ride his motorcycle. Marvin and Frances loved to travel on the motorcycle. They took many family vacations to Minnesota so they could fish. Marvin died on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at his daughter’s home in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 76 years, 11 months and 12 days. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances on October 5, 1999; two brothers, Walter and Melvin; sister, Mildred Kline; and special dog Mercedes. He is survived by his daughter, Carol and her husband Dave Schilling of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Jay Jorgensen and Julie Jorgensen; 13 great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; sister, Jean Grimm of Exira, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1946, and served in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1950-1952. John was employed by Safeway grocery stores for over 42 years and was an active member of Christ Community Church in Omaha for over 25 years. In 2005 John moved to Columbia, Mo., to be closer to three of his four children and enjoyed worshiping at Forum Boulevard Christian Church with his family. John is survived by his former wife: Gwynette of Columbia; four children: Jim (Karen) Reed of Omaha, Neb.; Joanie Reed of Columbia; Lori (Paul) Garrett of Moberly and Amy Brinkman of Columbia; three sisters: Marge Teague of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Bess Stewart of Garden Grove, Calif., and Nina Jenkins of Stewartville, Minn., as well as six grandchildren: Jessica Thompson, Emily Reed, Sean (Shanna) Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Maddie Bexten and Callie Brinkman.
