Dick was born June 29, 1928 in Omaha to the late Roy and Agnes (Kirlin) Olsen. Dick and his parents moved to Missouri Valley where he graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1947. He served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Dorothy Morse on January 22, 1953. To this union five children were born. They moved to Council Bluffs in 1953. Dick was a transportation assistant for the Union Pacific Railroad for 36 years retiring in 1986 and was a member of the Catholic faith. He had a great love of music and had his own band "The Dick Olsen Orchestra". Dick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Olsen, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Kimberly Beck and husband Martin, of South Lake, Texas, Kathy Olsen, of Council Bluffs; sons, Richard E. She and her husband enjoyed travel and did so extensively after their retirement. Besides her husband, Delores was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Marvin, Max, Karol and Dale and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Foutch. She then took a teaching position at the Magnolia Elementary School and then at the Lo-Ma School. Evelyn completed her teaching degree at Dana College and she taught school for 32 years. Evelyn married Bernard Peterson on May 20, 1942, in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived near Portsmouth and later moved to Magnolia before settling east of Logan. The couple moved to Logan in 1954. Evelyn was baptized in the Lutheran Church, but she attended and supported the Christian Church in Logan. Evelyn was in a pitch club and a pinochle club. She was also active in the Senior Citizens. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, needlework, reading and cross word puzzles. She also enjoyed flowers and birds, and watching skating, baseball, and football on television. Evelyn died on Sunday, December 24, 2006, at her home in Logan at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 17 days. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; son, Sheldon Harry Peterson; great grandson, Jacob Leonard; and brother, Philip Hughes. She grew up in Gray and was baptized and confirmed at the Gray Methodist Church. Edith attended Gray public schools, graduating with the Class of 1943. Following her schooling, she remained at home and helped take care of younger siblings as well as doing some secretarial work at the school. On May 12, 1946, Edith was united in marriage with Reuben Stoberl. Five children were born to this union. They lived near Ross, Aspinwall and Botna on rented farms until purchasing their own farm southwest of Manning in 1955. After farming for over 30 years, they retired and moved into their home in Manning. Edith was a loyal member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Manning. She was also a member of the Tri-County Club and Garden Club. Edith volunteered many hours at the Hospital and Plaza Snack Bar. After the death of her husband on April 7, 1988, Edith remained in their home in Manning. Although she had various health problems since 1997, Edith continued to live a full and active life until her death at home late Tuesday evening December 12, 2006, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 16 days. Preceding her in death are her parents and husband. Edith is survived by her five children: Nancy and husband Calvin Stammer of Manning; Karen and husband Dr. Eugene Stoelk of West Linn, Oregon; Judy and husband Duane Reinke of Ankeny; Richard Stoberl and wife Darla of Missouri Valley; and Deb and husband Archie Warren of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren: Clinton Stammer, Chad Stammer, Nathan Stoelk, Kristina Stoelk and Rachel Stoelk; brother Roy Lawson and wife Lois of Audubon; two sisters: Grace and husband George Campbell of Audubon and Wanda Tigges of Carroll; three sisters-in-law: Irene and husband Herman Meislahn of Gray; Valeria and husband Louis Dreher of Audubon and Margaret Stoberl of Audubon; two brothers-in-law Lyle Stoberl and wife Mary of Stuart and Norbert Stoberl and wife Virginia of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. JoAnn Karsten served as accompanist for congregational hymn, Amazing Grace and Carolyn Miller, vocalist as she sang, One Day At A Time and Because He Lives. Thos serving as casket bearers were Harry Campbell, Bob Tigges, Jon Meislahn, Randy Stoberl, Dave Stoberl and Eugene Stoberl. Mary was born on June 16, 1910 in Carpenter, South Dakota to parents William and Kathryn (Toews) Martens. The family moved to Minnesota for a short time and then moved to Saskatchewan, Canada. Mary received her schooling in Canada. At 18 years of age she moved to Glasgow, Montana, where she was the head cook for a facility that fed between 2000-3000 people a day. She met her future husband Bruce Armstong, during the building of the Fort Peck Dam in Glasgow.. Bruce grew up in the River Sioux area in Harrison County, Iowa. Mary and Bruce were married in 1940 in Dalles, Oregon. The couple moved to Seattle, Washington and lived there until 1955. Then the couple moved to Astoria, Oregon where they purchase a Western Auto Store. They operated the auto store until the early 1970's when they retired. They began spending their winte! rs in Arizona. Bruce died in 1977. Mary continued living in Astoria until October of 2005 when she became a resident of the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa to be closer to her daughter Janet. Mary was an active member of her church in Astoria the Bible Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed having company. She knitted and crocheted various items for her family over the years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 14 brothers and sisters. She is survived by three daughters, Janet and Dave Smith of Moorhead, Iowa and children, Lori and David Miller of Astoria, Oregon, Shelley and Ed Key of Royal City, Washington and Craig and Emily Houston of Bremerton, Washington; JoAnn and K.C. Heckenberg of Astoria, Oregon and children, Paul and Dorrie Caruana of Gearheart, Oregon, Jeff and Andrea Hale and Mary Beth Hale both of Astoria, Oregon, Julie Nowell of Bend, Oregon, Joel and Jessica Patterson of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; Sara Lois Cowan of Portland, Oregon and Robert Cowan of Astoria, Oregon and children, Amy Cowan of Portland, Oregon, Ryan Cowan of Pendleton, Oregon and Kelly and Brad Splitorf of Fountain Hill, Arizona; 33 great grandchildren and three sisters, Frieda Martens and Helen Wall both of Abbotsford, British Columbia and Bertha and Jim Gamble of St. Petersburg, Florida and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the Bible Baptist Church in Astoria, Oregon. Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Raymond Earl Beck, 64, died on Dec. 6, 2006 at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. Earl was born Mar. 22, 1942, to Raymond Edward and Dorothy (Deakins) Beck in Missouri Valley. Earl attended school in Missouri Valley and then worked for several area farmers. Earl married Connie Sims in 1967 at the First Christian Church in Missouri Valley. The couple made their home in the Missouri Valley area. Earl worked for Loveland, Cal Junction, Scoular and the Bartlett Elevators until his disabling injury. Earl was baptized and was a member of the First Christian Church in Missouri Valley. He was a wonderful husband and father with a huge heart. His sons were very important to him. He enjoyed making bird houses and puzzles. Earl was a jack of all trades and master of none. Earl was preceded in death by his father and infant son, Bryon Christopher Allen Beck. He is survived by his wife Connie Sims Beck of Woodbine; two sons, Daniel Rey Beck of Harlan, John Nathan Carl (Tonya) Beck of Logan; mother, Dorothy Beck of Missouri Valley; brother, Ron (Patsy) Beck of Logan; sister, Patty (Don) Sisley of Council Bluffs; and many other relatives and friends. Final resting place was Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Lela was born Feb. 3, 1923 to Lawrence and Hazel (Hunter) Pryor in Dunlap. She attended country school and the Dunlap High School. Lela worked for Henry and Jennie Baxter on their farm. Lela married their son, Russell, Dec. 29, 1940. The couple farmed east of Woodbine. In the early 1970's the couple moved to California. They moved back to Woodbine in the mid 1980's. Lela loved to garden, cook, eat out, play cards and solve puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling. Lela was preceded in death by husband Russell and an infant sister. Survivors include her four sons, Dennis Baxter and his wife Carolyn of David City, Neb., Gary Baxter and his wife Vickie of Omaha, Neb., Ronald Baxter and his wife Gennie of Antioch, Calif., Wayne Baxter and his wife Janice of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Connie Bauman of Fairfield, Calif., Sharon Cooper and her husband Roy of Omaha, Neb., Linda Schuetz and her husband Joe of Glendale, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister Altha Black of Longview, Wash., special friend Bob Katzenberger of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends. She donated her body to scientific research at the University of Nebraska. No memorial service is planned at this time. Delores was born June 30, 1926 in the Hardscratch area. Her parents wre Paul and Ina (Fountain) Foutch. She attended Mt. Hope country school, and graduated from Logan High School in 1944. She attended business school in Omaha, working as a bookeeper for an oil company until her marriage to Robert Coy Birks Aug. 22, 1948. Delores worked as a secretary for the Omaha Public School District and retired in 1987 after 20 years of service. She enjoyed camping, golf and dancing. She and her husband enjoyed travel and did so extensively after their retirement. Besides her husband, Delores was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Max, Karol and Dale and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Foutch. Survivors include her son Roger Birks, and wife Jewell of Lincolnton, Ga.; daughter Diane Sievers and husband Jim, grandchildren Kevin, Daniel and Melissa Sievers of Fresno, Calif., sister-in-law Louise Foutch of Logan, nieces, nephews and friends.
