Charles grew up in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1939. Charles enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was stationed in Hawaii. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Charles moved back to Dunlap to help on the family farm, and he was also a substitute mail carrier. Charles met Joan Hugron while she was teaching in Dow City. The couple was married in Sioux City, Iowa on September 16, 1950. Charles continued to farm and work for the postal service becoming a full time rural mail carrier in the late 1970s. Charles retired in 1984. The couple moved to Colorado for a while and then settled in Omaha in 1994. Charles was a member of the American Legion in Dunlap and Woodbine; and was a past Commander of the Woodbine Legion. He enjoyed bowling and was on a league in Dunlap. Charles also enjoyed hunting, golfing, and horse racing. Charles died Sunday, January 14, 2007, at his home in Omaha at the age of 84 years, six months, and 24 days. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Vincent and one sister who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Joan Hein of Omaha, Nebraska; son Jim Hein and his wife Dianne of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Tricia Hein and her husband Steve Sjoberg of Austin, Texas; Susan Hein of San Francisco, California; two grandchildren, Claire and Preston Hein of Houston, Texas; one brother, Fred Hein of Crescent, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. He grew up in Neola, Iowa, where he attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Tri-Center High School in 1969. Dave served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Dave was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Neola, former honor guard member of the Neola American Legion Post #330, current member of American Legion Post #2 where he served as First Commander. Bantam were conducted at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5 at the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Neb. With Pastor Roger Miller officiating. Interment was in the Orleans Cemetary. Pearl Eleanor Bantam, 88 years of age, of Phillipsburg, Kan. (formerly of Orleans, Neb.) passed away on Dec. 30, 2006 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kan. Pearl was born Sept. 4, 1918 in Harlan County, south of Orleans, the eldest of five children of Oliver and Gladys (Russell) White. She received her education in Harlan County and later in Stamford. On Dec. 18, 1935 she was united in marriage to Glen W. Bantam at Phillipsburg, Kan. And to this union were born five daughters and five sons. The family made their home on the farm in the Eldorado Township south of Orleans until 1973 when Glen and Pearl moved into Orleans. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, where she was active in many capacities including the Presbyterian Women and Sunday School Teacher. Pearl was also very involved as a 4-H Leaders, Girls Scout Leader and Band Mother through the years when the children were young, was a charter member of the Orleans Civic Club and member of the Gingham Girls Extension Club. Pearl enjoyed sewing, baking, volunteering with Meals-On-Wheels, quilting and loved to read. On June 29, 2000 she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen. Following Glen's passing, Pearl moved to Phillipsburg, Kan. to be near her youngest daughters. The family moved to the Dunlap area when Lee was a young child. She attended country school and Dunlap High School. She helped out at her folks' farm. She became quite handy with wallpapering, painting and other repairs around the house. In June of 1931, she married Ira Edward Hansen. The couple lived in Defiance until 1945 when they moved to Dunlap. Lee worked at the telephone company and the Dunlap Pharmacy. In January of 1951, Lee married Charles Egan. The couple lived in the Dunlap area. Lee and Charlie did a lot of traveling and spent their winters in Texas. Charlie died March 16, 1977. After Charlie's death Lee continued wintering in Texas until the late 1990's. She also enjoyed going on bus tours with other ladies. Lee was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap and a member of the Altar Society. Lee enjoyed sewing, crocheting and playing cards. Lee died on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa attaining the age of 92 years, nine months and 17 days. Lee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie; three brothers, Glen, Lyle and Ira Farley and two sisters, Gladys Brown and Grace Hansen. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she was very active in many activities, and the Garden Club. She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Bernice Barnes, and her brother, James. Survivors include: her husband, William (Bill) Christoffersen, Missouri Valley; son, William C. Christoffersen, Jr., and his wife, Teresa, Omaha; daughters, Maureen Hamm and her husband, David, Plainview, Neb.; Tera Rand and her husband, Jim, Missouri Valley; sister, Eileen Rasnick and her husband, Vince, Omaha; brothers, Dr. John W. Barnes and his wife, Janet, Omaha; and Gerald Barnes and his wife, Joanne, Omaha; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Missouri Valley, today (Wednesday, Dec. 27) at 10 a.m., Rev. Fr. Bob Harris, celebrant. Organist will be Lyle Waterhouse, vocalist will be Ann Marie Wolford. Honorary Bearers will be "The Children She Has Taken Care of Over The years." Casket Bearers will be Jim Rand, David Hamm, Brandon Hamm, Jacob Rand, Britton Hamm, and William Charles Christoffersen III. Interment will be in Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery, Omaha, at 2 p.m. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at St. Patrick's Catholic Church immediately following the Mass. Joe was born April 27, 1925 on the farm near Dow City in Crawford County, Iowa to parents, William and Edna (Girard) Blume. Joe attended Boyer Township country school and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1943. He worked on the farm for LaVerne and Evelyn Jochims for many years. Joe enjoyed going to town and playing cards. He enjoyed his nieces and nephews at the family gatherings. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Miller. He is survived by his twin brother, Bill Blume and his wife Raydene of Storm Lake, Iowa; a sister, Virginia Blume of Dunlap, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. During her school years sister became proficient in piano, organ and playing the violin. She especially loved playing the violin. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation on September 6, 1942 and professed her perpetual vows on May 3, 1948. Sister Alice Marie received a bachelor of music degree in piano from Loras College, Dubuque, and studied voice at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Her music-teaching career, spanning 43 years, took her to Farley, Mason City, Algona, Lawler, Clare, Storm Lake, Key West, Sheldon, and Bankston, all in Iowa, Timber Lake, S.D., and Monticello, Minn. She taught piano, organ, violin, voice, and classroom music to grades K-8, and also taught private music lessons. She enjoyed working with parish choirs and training cantors for liturgies. She always said it was a pleasure to teach music wherever she was as! signed. Sister Alice Marie retired to Mount Loretto Motherhouse in 1989 in Dubuque and celebrated her Diamond (60) Jubilee in 2003. In retirement she continued with community service and prayer and her love of knitting, crocheting and other handicrafts until her death October 2, 2006. She will be remembered for her gift of musical ability, good conversationalist and cheerful availability to others. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Penelope (Nelle) Pearson and Mary Burke; brothers, Francis, Wayne (Bob), Ralph (Bud), and Eugene. She is survived by her brother, Mike Crilly of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sisters, Eileen and her husband Cliff Renneker of Correctionville and Pauline and her husband Roy Sorensen of Bancroft, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Lucille Crilly of Dunlap and Bernadine Crilly of Sioux City and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the fifth of ten children, five sons and five daughters, born to Hugh and Florence (O'Connor) Crilly. She attended the Pat King School in Morgan Township, St. Joseph's Catholic School in Anthon, and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School at Emerson, Neb., in 1938. Clifton Renneker and Eileen Crilly were united in marriage on April 13, 1940, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon, with Father A. M. Conlon officiating. This was a double wedding in which Eileen's sister, Mary Agnes Crilly and Vincent S. Burke were also married. Eileen and Cliff enjoyed 66 years of happy marriage until her passing on Cliff's 90th birthday Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Correctionville. Eileen was a loving and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with family. She spent twelve years as the librarian for the Anthon Public Library and worked for Collins Agency in Anthon. She inspired a lifetime of reading enjoyment for her children and many young readers who visited the library. Her many interests included needlework, reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, cooking, and gardening. She loved to bake and sew for her family. Among the organizations Eileen was involved in were Catholic Daughters, 4-H, and American Legion Aux! iliary, and a member of the Northwest Regional Resource Advisory Board for public libraries. Eileen will be fondly remembered by her husband, Cliff; two sons and four daughters, Jim and Joyce (Davis) Renneker of Warroad, Minn., Carol and Ray Orr of West Point, Neb., Joyce and Bob Tullis of Dallas, Texas, Bill and Kathy (Lyon) Renneker of Brookings, S.D.; Muriel and Dan McDermott of Breda, Iowa, Mary and Peter Sorensen of State College, Penn.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Mike Crilly of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sister, Pauline and her husband Roy Sorensen of Bancroft, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Crilly of Dunlap and Bernadine Crilly of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
