Julia Mensching died 1845-1932 Henry Mensching died 1843-1918 Will be harder to find them since they don't have actual dates. Do you? Dorothy was born October 13, 1913, to James and Etta May Garner in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Dorothy was the youngest of 9 children, all of whom preceded her in death. Her schooling was in the Missouri Valley, Iowa, area where she spent most of her younger years. Dorothy met Jimmy Reninger and they went together for several years before they were married on the 28th of February, 1934. They began their married life on a small farm near Big Lake in Council Bluffs. When Jimmie went to work for the North West, they moved into a home on Avenue B and then to a home on Lake Manawa, where they lived for most of their adult years. After Jimmy retired, they moved to Diamond City, Ark., where Jimmy could fish. Jimmy caught 'em and Dorothy cooked 'em. They returned to Glenwood, Iowa, where Jimmy passed awa! y in 1988, Dorothy remained in Glenwood for many years and then returned to Council Bluffs to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Donna Mae Hearty until Donna's passing in May, 2006. At her passing, Dorothy was a resident of Risen Son near Council Bluffs. Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She along with her sister, Beulah, could be found in the kitchen at most of the early Council Bluffs Branch socials and dinners. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Reninger; and 2 daughters, Donna Mae Hearty and Linda Kay Reninger. She is survived by 3 grandchildren, Mike Flanagan of Council Bluffs, Tim Flanagan (Sue) of Council Bluffs and Julie Lerette (Roger) of Kansas; 6 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Heffernan 1931 - January 25, 2007 The Dunlap Reporter February 02, 2007 James L. Heffernan, 75, of Council Bluffs, died January 25, 2007, at his home, after a long-term illness that affected him the last few months. Mr. Heffernan was born in Dunlap, Iowa in 1931. He has lived in Council Bluffs since 1986. He was a member of Holy Family Church. James served in the Korean War in 1951 as a tank leader. In 1955 James and Jeanette M. Hays were united in marriage. Jeanette was from Gothenburg, Neb. Prior to his move to Council Bluffs, Mr. Heffernan spent twenty-five years in Carroll, Iowa. In 1953 he started with Interstate Electric Supply. In 1975 he went into partnership with the late Neil Lane and decided to locate to a store in Carroll, Iowa now referred to as Echo Group. James retired and sold out in 1986 and remained active on the board for several years. He enjoyed many good Christmas gatherings with customers and friends. While working Mr. Heffernan served on the Chamber of Commerce, was an active member of the Elks and Legion Club, numerous C! ountry Clubs, and several boards. Mr. Heffernan was a salesman at heart and spent hours traveling rural Iowa. Following his retirement he spent several winters in Arizona. He spent hours playing cards and reading the newspaper looking for Cushman Motors. He enjoyed his building located behind Interstate Electric, renaming his new stage "The Oldtimers Den". He enjoyed having a place for fellow employees and friends to gather. He also spent many hours and good times at the river. James enjoyed thoroughbred horses, cards, fishing in Alaska, camping, traveling, people and celebrating with the Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of Council Bluffs; sons, Mike of Arizona and Jimmy of Council Bluffs; daughters, Marcia Rupiper and husband Joe of Roselle, Iowa, Kathy Swanson of Council Bluffs, Nancy Johnson and husband Mike of Holstein, Iowa; grandkids, Jill, Lori, Stacie Rupiper, Nathan, Taylor Necs, Lexi Johnson, Jeff Heffernan and Justin Swanson; broth! ers, Bob Heffernan of Council Bluffs, Micky Heffernan of Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law, Mary Colpitts; and several nieces and nephews. She then taught country school at the Delance school near Moorhead, Iowa. She later took summer teachers training through Buena Vista College. Phyllis married Harry M. Peterson on August 29, 1946, in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Woodbine for 40 years. Phyllis substitute taught in Woodbine. Phyllis and Harry managed apartment complexes in Des Moines and Little Rock, Arkansas for five years. They then moved to Onawa, Iowa for 11 years before moving to the Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City in 2001. Phyllis was a former member of the First Christian Church in Woodbine and the Community of Christ in Woodbine. She was active with the ladies groups at the churches. Phyllis loved to sew, cook and garden. Phyllis died January 26, 2007, in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 82 years and 28 days. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Peterson on February 23, 2004; and a sister, Helen Welter. She met Arthur Dorland and the couple was married on September 6, 1998. The two enjoyed attending the Presbyterian Church on Sundays, traveling to visit family, and spending time together. Florence always had her door open to family and friends, and she welcomed the challenge of adding one more. As those who knew her well can attest, she spent many hours quilting for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Florence also enjoyed time spent with the ladies at the Golden Age Center in Woodbine. Florence was a devoted grandmother and spent quality time with each of her seven grandchildren; Jeff, Tammy, Shelly, Sherry, Jennifer, Janelle and Jason. Florence enjoyed playing cards and checkers. Norma was born Jan. 11, 1945 in Omaha, Neb. to William Taylor and Verna Harlan Burgen. She graduated from Logan-Magnolia High School in 1963. On Jan. 11, 1964 she was married to Michael Epperson at St. Patrick's Church in Missouri Valley. They had two boys, Michael and Jeffrey. They made their home in Logan for six years before moving to Loveland, Colo. They lived for a number of years before moving to Montrose, Colo., in May of 1978. Norma enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, knitting and volunteering at their church. She and Mike were in charge of hospitality and scheduling ushers and greeters. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Mike of Montrose; sons Mike and wife Wendy of Montrose, Jeffery and wife Candy of Delta; step-grandchildren Cody and Marci Giles and grandson Taylor; father-in-law Jerome Epperson of Montrose; sisters Ruby Campbell and Linda Arbaugh both of Nebraska; brothers Art and wife Sandy of Kentucky, Dick and wife Bonnie of Council Bluffs; Jack and wife Marie of Alabama, Chuck and wife Ann of Indiana, and Larry Burgen of Texas; brothers-in-law Larry and wife Velma Epperson, Council Bluffs, Tim and wife Rochelle Epperson of Colorado Springs; sisters-in-law Dolores and husband Bill Radebaugh of Grand Junction, Patricia and husband Art Hinkel of Littleton; many nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by twin infant daughters, five infant siblings, her parents William and Verna Burger, mother-in-law Lorena Epperson, brother-in-law Dennis Arbaugh and brother-in-law Raymond Campbell.

He attended country school in Dunlap until the death of his father. He then went to live with his sister, Thelma, and attended school in Dow City before returning to Dunlap to graduate from Dunlap High School in 1961. He then moved to Kansas City to attend electrical schooling before joining the Air Force. Merrell went to work for Master Craft Furniture Manufacturing in Council Bluffs. Merrell married Susan Jane Olson on July 13, 1968, at the Methodist Church in Dunlap. The couple lived in Dow City and he worked for Farmland until 1979. Merrell had a tractor accident July 16, 1980. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1982 and Merrell attended the University of Iowa majoring in English. Merrell then moved to Arizona, back to Dow City to live with Thelma, to Florida and back to Dow City again. Merrell was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing. Merrell ! died Monday, January 22, 2007, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., attaining the age 63 years, two months, and 29 days. Preceding him in death were his parents; and sister, Leona Lantz. Lyle married Fern Hein on February 4, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Donna. The couple farmed until they moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where they managed the Pine Crest Motel. After returning to the Dunlap area, Lyle worked at the Dunlap Coop. Lyle and Fern moved to town in 1995, but they farmed as a team until 2002. Fern died October 20, 2005. Lyle was baptized and was an active member of the Congregational Church. He enjoyed playing bingo and euchre. He also enjoyed gardening and farming. Lyle died on Monday, January 22, 2007, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 90 years, five months, and five days. Fargo was born June 3, 1916 in Magnolia to Fred and Jennie (Beebee) Ehlert Jr. Fargo attended school in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School. He farmed, operated the Skelly Tank Wagon for 15 years and retired in 1982 after 12 years with the State of Iowa with the maintenance department. Fargo was married to Vera Johnson, January 31, 1941 in Woodbine. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Fargo loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards, watching the New York Yankees play, gardening, feeding his birds and squirrels, and watching his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. Vera passed away December 28, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leslie, Frederick, Hudson and Corrie. The couple was married on October 17, 1934, in Woodbine, Iowa. They farmed west of Dunlap until 1944, and then they moved east of town. Walter died on August 10, 1973. Maymie married Thom Gilbreath in 1976. He died in 1987. Maymie was an active member of the Congregational Church. Walter and Maymie enjoyed going to the horse races. The couple also enjoyed square dances, barn dances and farm life. They had a large garden and canned whatever they could. Maymie enjoyed bingo and she loved to sew, crochet and quilt. She shared her beautiful quilts by giving them to her children and grandchildren Maymie died on Friday, January 19, 2007, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 87 years, eight months, and 24 days. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial with military rites followed in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Kevin McKinley was born April 30, 1953, in Ames, to Chelsea Wilford and Mary Louise (Williams) McKinley. He graduated from Tech High in Des Moines. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a military policeman. On Aug. 21 1976, he married Debra Danelle Shumate in Adel. He retired from the Story County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff after serving there for 16 years. He was a good officer and well respected. He also was involved in the D.A.R.E. program and was a hostage negotiator. Kevin had a charm about him that allowed him to diffuse situations before they got out of hand and was very effective as a negotiator. Before joining the Sheriff's Office, Kevin spent nine years working for Iowa State University Security, which is now known as ISU Police. He totaled 28 years in law enforcement. Kevin was a member of the Roland Legion Post No. 3087, Mid Iowa Star Chapter 210 Touring and Riding, Pheasants Forever, Loyal Order of the Moose 520, State and National Sheriffs Association. He is survived by his wife, Debra McKinley of Roland; three sons, Jeremy (Shanon) McKinley of Huxley, and Sean McKinley and Eric McKinley, both at home; a daughter, Jessica McKinley of Nevada, Iowa; two brothers, Mike (Penni) McKinley and Tim (Barb) McKinley, all of Ames; and three grandchildren, Byron, Dylan and Hunter.
