19 July 1923 OBITUARIES: Richard Davis, another old timer of the west side died at his home in Modale July 4th, age 78 years. He was born in Missouri in 1845, married Susan Little in 1863. To the two 11 children were born, of who six survive. Mr. Davis served in the Civil War with the Independent Indian Scouts and of course saw some real service. Interment was in Calhoun.
Obit: from "The Saints' Herald" : Martin: Abner Martin was born in Lafayette County, Missouri, in the year 1822; was baptized into the Church of Christ February 12th, 1865, by Elder Rasmus Campbell, Pottawattamie county, Iowa, and died April 30th, 1889, at his residence in Harrison county, Iowa. The hope given in obedience to the gospel was as an anchor to his soul, and he was enable to welcome the great change, and was anxious to depart hence that he might be with Christ. He leaves a wife, 14, children and 39 grandchildren, His funeral sermon was preached in Woodbine, Iowa, on the 5th May 1889, by C. Derry.
1907: Woodbine Twiner: 29 March 1907: C.L. GUINN MEETS DEATH: Thrown Against Tree in Runaway Sunday, Neck Broken and Dies Instantly: Last Sunday while C.L. Guinn, wife and daughter, were driving to our city his team of bronches became unmanagable and rushed down a steep hill, at the foot of which was a sharp turn, here the buggy was over-turned and Guinn was thrown with such force against a tree that his skull was crushed and his neck broken, killing him instantly. All were thrown from the buggy, Mrs. Guinn being slightly hurt and the daughter escaped unharmed. Deceased was 43 years of age and has always been a hard working farmer, ubt ill luck seems to have been with him, and success in this world's goods has not been his fate, seemingly from no fault of his. He leaves a wife and adopted daughter, three sisters and a brother to mourn his loss. Neighbors and friends deeply sympathize with the wife in this her hour of deep trouble, and are doing all that is possible to comfort and help her. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the L.D.S. church, Elder Chas. Derry in charge of the serivce, A large procession of neighbors and friends followed the remains to the church. Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Logan Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ron Riley officiating. Vocalist was Rick Powell. Honorary casket bearers were Wallace Hare, Murlyn Ronk, Bob Hardy, and Dwane Dahl. Casket bearers were Troy Wallis, Jim Fisher, Shon Wallis, Kyan Wallis, Jay Straight, and Steve Jensen. Final resting place was the Logan Cemetery. Norman was born Feb. 28, 1925 to Rayman and Wilma (Dunn) Jensen in Logan. He married Ileen Haferbier Sept. 7, 1946 in Papillion, Neb., and to this union one daughter and one son were born. Norman farmed in the Harrison County area all of his life. He enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, rodeos, NASCAR, and all outdoors. Norman loved being with is grandchildren and hunting with them. Survivors include his wife Ileen of Logan; daughter Nancy Wallis of Omaha, Neb., grandchildren, Tessa Marlow, Troy Wallis, Kyan Wallis, Shon Wallis, and Dane Jensen; six great-grandchildren; brother Wayne Jensen of Pisgah and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jon and sister Muriel Chaney. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at the Methodist Church in Logan with Pastor Marv Siems officiating. Organist was Barb Sherer and vocalist Rick Powell. Selections were, "On Eagles Wings," and "How Great Thou Art." Honorary casket bearers were Gene Evans, Roger Seeley, Jim Grosvenor, Ron Greenwood, Melvin Pitt, Gaylord Pitt, Alvin Dinkel, and Chuck Dickinson. Casket bearers were Gale Dickinson, Gary Dickinson, David Dickinson, Jerry Sherer, Lynn Dickinson, and Larry McMillen. Final resting place was Harris Grove Cemetery in Logan. Eva was born May 3, 1933 in Harrison County to Roy A. and Nettie (Kellogg) Dickinson. She graduated from Logan High School in 1951. On June 17, 1951 Eva married Jack McMillen at the Logan Methodist Church where she was a member. To this union a son and daughter were born. Eva was employed at Farm Bureau and then spent 15 years working for Moore Brothers Grocery Store and spent many years enjoying her work as a volunteer at the Welcome Center. She enjoyed being in the neighborhood card club. Her life focused around family and friends and she loved being the "favorite" aunt. Survivors include her husband Jack McMillen of Logan; son Terry Gene McMillen and wife Leeanne of Orange City; daughter Connie Lee Weeder and husband Dan of Osmond, Neb.; grandchildren Dawn Wiederholt and husband Ted, Megan McMillen and fiancée Josh Malenosky, Brittnee Weeder, Brandon Weeder; great-grandchildren Jack Wiederholt, Clara Wiederholt, Sam Wiederholt; brothers Donald Dickinson of Logan, Robert Dickinson and wife Sondra of Woodbine, Harold Dickinson and wife Marie of Logan. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother LeRoy, sister Dorothy and sister-in-law Ruth. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation. Jan. 4, 1912 - Feb. 4, 2007 Logan Herald-Observer 2/14/2007 Mass of Christian Burial for Fay S. Fouts was held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 8 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. Celebrant was Rev. Paul Strittmatter and musicians were Fran Klein, Jerry Baldwin and Amanda Sandvold. Selections were "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art" and "Here I am Lord." Honorary pall bearers were Fay's grandchildren. Pall bearers were Pauline Kloewer, Bob Fouts, Phil Fouts, Kenneth Fouts, Phyllis Petersen, Vicky Henkelman, Becky Young and Jim Fouts. Fay S. Fouts was born Jan. 4, 1912, to William Adel and Elizabeth (Mosher) Fouts in Dunlap, Iowa. Fay attended Grove Township Shelby County School #2. Fay married Helen Patricia Burns on Nov. 21, 1930, in Logan Iowa. The couple farmed in the Galland's Grove area until 1965. They then moved to Dunlap where Fay worked for Schaben Auction Service. The couple moved to Council Bluffs and Fay worked at Offutt Air Force Base. Fay retired in 1980 and the couple returned to Dunlap where they lived in the funeral home and helped their son and daughter-in-law with visitations. Helen died April 15, 1998. Fay was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He had served on the Grove Township Board and as clerk of the Grove Township. Fay enjoyed baseball and horse racing and he was always ready for a card game. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he always had a smile on his face. Fay died Feb. 4, 2007, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 95 years and one month. Fay was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; infant son Billy Darrell, three brothers, Holley, Harvey and Floyd; and three sisters, Florence Greenwood, Ethel Steinhauser and Julia Lahr. He is survived by eight children, Pauline (Jerry) Kloewer of Harlan, Bob Fouts of Dunlap, Phil (Anita) Fouts of Woodbine, Kenneth (Janice) Fouts of Dunlap, Phyllis (WD "Pete") Petersen of Sahuarita, Ariz., Vicky (Tom) Henkelman of Denver, Colo., Becky (Dave) Young of Queen Creek, Ariz., Jim (Peggy) Fouts of Dow City, Iowa; 33 grandchildren; 77 great grandchildren; 10 great-great-grand-children; one brother Glen (Doris) Fouts of Beaumont, Texas; one sister, Marcella Hansen of Carson City, Nev.; and many other relatives and friends. Final resting place was Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.

Pastor Jess Thomason served as clergy from the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, Iowa. Musicians were Margaret Cotton and Max Poe with selections "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Honorary pall bearers were Richard Randall, Berkley Dankel, Robert Meyers, Jerry Moore, Harold Kuhlman, Merrill Kuhlman and Donald Kuhlman. Kenneth Alfred Kuhlman was born Sept. 2, 1926, to Alfred Herman and Mary Ann (Bonar) Kuhlman in Dunlap, Iowa. Kenneth attended Dow City School, and worked as a farm hand for Dale Barry. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army February 1952 to November 1953. Kenneth married Charlotte Browning Androy Aug. 10, 1957. The couple lived in Denver, Colo. until 1962 when they moved to a farm in Moorhead, Iowa. The couple retired from farming in 1997 and moved to Lake View, Iowa. Charlotte died Jan. 3, 2002. Kenneth was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, Iowa. He loved farming and his animals. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends, spending time with his family, family picnics and the casino. Kenneth died Feb. 3, 2007, at Veteran's Hospital in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 80 years, five months and one day. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte; and four brothers, Gerald, Leonard, Leo and Charles Kuhlman. He is survived by six children, Jack Androy of Lake View, Iowa, Connie (Charlie) Kerger of Woodbine, Robert (Jackie) Androy of Dunlap, Roger (Joan) Androy of Logan, Linda (Marty) Toms of Scranton, Iowa, Mary (Andy) Arndt of Woodbine; "adopted" son, Ron (Sharon) Lee of Dunlap; 20 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; three sisters, Vera Wilson of Milliken, Colo., Ruth Siler of Arvada, Colo., and Lois Surber of Woodbine; three brothers, Harold Kuhlman of Soldier, Iowa, Merrill Kuhlman of Alton, Mo., Donald (Wanda) Kuhlman of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends. Ron Keith. Musicians were Margaret Cotton and Max Poe with selections "How Great Thou Art," "Wind Beneath My Wings." Pall bearers were Byron Golden, Robbie Golden, Travis Coenen, Michael Harrison, Shane Sears and Nick Sears. Nelda May (Emley) Golden was born May 6, 1926, to Homer and Etta Mae (Kelso) Emley. She graduated in 1944 from Arlington High School in Arlington, Neb. Nelda married Robert Golden on Oct. 6, 1946, in Omaha. In 1967 Nelda attended Tech School and received her LPN diploma. Nelda worked at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine as an LPN for 22 years. Nelda enjoyed her camping, quilting, crocheting and knitting. She particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nelda died Feb. 5, 2007, at her daughter's home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 80 years, nine months and three days. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on Aug. 17, 1990; and daughter Roberta Lynn Brookhouser on Sept. 24, 1986. She is survived by three children, Barbara and her husband Bill Lundvall of Glenwood, Robert Golden and his wife Melissa of Harlan, Twyla and her husband Bill Loyd of Missouri Valley; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister Betty Golden of Minden, Neb., three half sisters, Wanda Price of Omaha, Josephine Rodosovich of Williamsburg, Virg., Bertha Bullen of Okemos, Mich. and many other relatives and friends. Final resting place is in Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine, Iowa.
