    1. [IAHARRIS] To Wed or Die
    2. The New Era Humeston, Wayne, Iowa March 22, 1899 THE NEWS IN IOWA To Wed or Die DUNLAP, March 16 - Fred Smith, a young man 23 years old, came in from the country to see his best girl, Lottie Smith, 14 years old, and a cousin. Fred wanted to marry at once, but Lottie's parents objected. Then Fred drew a six-shooter and tried to end the life of his upper story. The gun was wrested from him, and then a jack-knife came into play, and that was taken from him, and he was put into the city cooler over night and the next day adjudged insane. He was taken three miles in the country by his father who will care for him at present. 1. [IAHARRIS] An Old Man Assaulted
    2. The New Era Humeston, Wayne, Iowa March 22, 1899 THE NEWS IN IOWA An Old Man Assaulted DUNLAP, March 16 - An aged farmer named Schrivalier, living four miles in the country, who had been in town during the day, was assaulted by Jim Mitchell, Arch Wood, and Ervin Mige, all young men about 21 years of age. The affair seems to have occurred at William Mige's livery stable while the old man was getting his horse to return to his home in the country. When he became unconscious Schrivalier's assailants dragged him into the barn, and, throwing a blanket over him, left him. He was found in the morning, still unconscious, and almost frozen to death. The assailants are under arrest. Schrivalier may die. Posted at this site with Cathy's permission Cathy Joynt Labath Iowa Old Press _http://www.IowaOldPress.com/_ (http://www.IowaOldPress.com/) I am not positive but I think the surname should read Chevalier. Checking the Harrison obituary index on site there is a Mr. Chevalier listed and year of death 1899......... Unable to locate the name in census records for Harrison County. 1. [IAHARRIS] Man Shot By Editor Dies
    2. Iowa Recorder Greene, Butler, Iowa March 20, 1907 IOWA STATE NEWS MAN SHOT BY EDITOR DIES Latte is Charged with Murder and Violence is Feared M.S. Brundridge, who was shot by A.H. Sniff, editor of the Harrison County News because he objected to an article in the paper, died in Missouri Valley of his injuries. Feeling among the friends of Brundridge is quite bitter and it is feared violence may be attempted on Sniff. Sniff is held in $5,000 bond on a charge that was changed from assault with intent to ill to one of murder. The trouble arose over a row at a dance in which Brundridge's brother-in-law, A.L. Fouts, was stabbed in the neck following a quarrel. A strange part of the whole affair is that the name of the dead man was never mentioned in the original article detailing the trouble at the dance.
