Pasko, 88, Missouri Valley, died March 11, 2007 at Longview Home, Missouri Valley. Roxie Jeanette Pasko was born Oct. 30, 1918 in Whiting to Earl and Lillian (Stacy) Porter. She was the youngest of the four Porter girls and had a half sister who came later. Roxie graduated from Whiting High School in 1936. She met a young motorcyclist when he came into a local restaurant where she was working in Whiting. Roxie was married to Steve Pasko, June 16, 1940. Steve went to serve in World War II and Roxie filled that time by going to Bible College in Waxahachie, Tex. Later on, she moved to St. Louis and played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, when they began recruiting women players, since male players were in short supply during the war. She played short stop for the Cardinals, something she was very proud of. Roxie had three successful careers. She worked for J.C. Penney Co., ran a homemade ice cream stand from 1947 to 1970, and then worked at Longview Home as Activi! ty Director for 25 years. She had several hobbies which included clowning as "Rocko" the clown, painting scenery and still life, and traveling. She and Steve enjoyed spending winters in Florida, where she volunteered doing clowning and playing in a ukulele club. Steve died in 1997. Roxie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve; and sisters, Gladys Ferrell, Earlene Porter, Mary Rose Loos, and Katherine Cobb. Survivors include: her half sister, Penny Long; dear friend, Dee Stueve, Missouri Valley. nieces, nephews; and many other dear friends who felt as if she were a mother and grandmother to them. Funeral Services were held at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, March 14, Pastor Don Robinson, officiant. Organist was Barb Sherer, vocalist was Rex Gochenour. Casket Bearers were: Jerry Sherer, Kelly Sherer, Jacob Hedger, John Sherer, Jason Sherer, and Kyle Sherer. Interment was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Missouri Valley. Claire was born Jan. 7, 1923 to Clarence and Mary (Cleaver) Yager in California Junction. She attended Nettlebend School and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1939. Claire married Robert (Ross) Mace, Aug. 9, 1941. She was a devoted wife and mother. Claire enjoyed social activities at her church and at Culavin Heights, spending time with friends, watching wildlife and birds. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross; and sons, Larry and Gary; brother, Lester Yager; and sister, Fern Scebold. Funeral Services were held March 15 at the Missouri Valley Church of Christ, Pastor Nathan Slaughter, officiant. Organist was Genelle Riesland, vocalist was Bill Cunard. Casket Bearers were: Tim Cunard, Gary Dowling, Larry Mace, Jim Cave, Jason Mace, and Marlyn Anderson. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Missouri valley. Irene Engen Feb. 27, 1913 - March 7, 2007 ©MISSOURI VALLEY TIMES - NEWS 03/15/2007 E. Irene Hanson, 94, Onawa, formerly of Little Sioux, died March 7, 2007 at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa. Irene was born Feb. 27, 1913 at Moorhead, the youngest child of Ole and Hulda (Moen) Engen. The family moved to Little Sioux, where Irene lived most of her life. She married Augustus (Doug) Hanson, Oct. 16, 1941 at Rock Port, Mo. and the couple farmed their Century Farm near Little Sioux for over 57 years. After Doug's death, March 12, 1999, Irene entered Elmwood Care Centre. Irene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was an excellent homemaker. She loved to cook, bake cakes, garden and travel. In addition to her husband, Doug, she was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, three nieces and two nephews. Survivors include: her nieces, Dorothy (Dolly) John, Missouri Valley; Peggy Berg, Plymouth, Minn.; Leone Benedickt, Dunlap; nephews, Charles Hanson, Little Sioux and Kenneth Engen, Omaha; sis! ters-in-law, Eva Engen, Modale; Nielsine Gehrke, Onawa; many great-nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at Rush Family Care Service, Onawa. A Prayer Service will begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12, at First Lutheran Church, Missouri Valley, Pastor Ray Smith, officiant. Heath, 102, Missouri Valley, died Feb. 26, 2007 at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital, Missouri Valley. Vivian was born Sept. 30, 1904 to Howard H. and Emma (Burcum) Thurber in Perry. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1923. Vivian attended Huron College in Huron S.D., where she met "the love of her life," Harlan Heath. They were married Aug. 10, 1929 in Oak Park, Ill. and lived there until 1939, when they moved to Missouri Valley. They were married 54 years until Harlan died in 1983. Vivian was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Missouri Valley, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) and P.E.O.. She sold Avon products for several years, was the bookkeeper for Heath Jensen Tractor Co., and she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, and traveling. Vivian loved life and she lived her life with love. She loved her church with a faith that was strong and never wavered. She loved traveling, learning new things and the beauty of nature! . Most of all, she loved caring for and spending time with her family. We, her family, are also blessed by her unconditional love and will continue to keep it in our hearts and share it with others all through our lives. "And the greatest of these is love." She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and husband, Harlan. Survivors include: her daughters, Jeanne and her husband, Lawrence, Herzberg, Clarinda; and Sandra and her husband, Ken Marquardt, Missouri Valley; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held March 2 at the First Presbyterian Church, Missouri Valley, Pastor Stephen Pike, officiant. Pianist was Amy Hoyt Whiteley. James was born Oct. 3, 1942 in Little Sioux to Floyd and Mildred (Herring) Cooper. He attended Mondamin High School where he graduated in 1961. September 1, 1962, he married Sharon K. Neill in Missouri Valley. To this union three children were born. He lived his entire life in the Mondamin area, where he farmed and raised Polled Hereford cattle. James was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren's sporting and school activities. He also loved farming and raising cattle. He taught Religious Education classes at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was an active member of the church, serving as Lector and Eucharist Minister. He was a member of the Iowa Hereford Breeders Association, served as a judge for the National Polled Hereford Association, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, past vo! lunteer member of the Mondamin Fire & Rescue Department, and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren show cattle at cattle shows, and was a member of the Harrison County Cattlemen's Association and past 4-H Leader. James was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Linda Cooper; nephew. Reggie Cooper; and aunts and uncles. She moved to Missouri Valley in 1954 and lived there until her death. From 1936 to 1938, she worked for the Bell Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator. Jennie built and operated the still-functioning Dairy Den Drive-In in Missouri Valley, from 1954 to 1965. She worked for J.C. Penney Co. from 1968 until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Missouri Valley, since 1954. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Huebner, Jr. and Robert Huebner; infant sister, Helen Huebner; and sister-in-law, Ruth Huebner. Vona was born Feb. 15, 1942, in New Orleans, La., to Clarence Melburn and Hazel Gertrude (Pridgeon) Peckenpaugh. Vona graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City in 1959. She also attended Morningside College, Sioux City, and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Education. She taught school in Glenwood and Sibley, until she moved to Idaho in 1967. Once in Idaho she taught at Nampa High School until her retirement in 1997. For continuing education Vona spent many summers in Washington, California, Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada and Utah. November 22, 1967 Vona married Robert L. Middleton. They were married in Boise, Ida. at the Cathedral of the Rockies. They were married for thirty-nine years. Vona was a retired member of the Idaho Education Association, a life member of the National Education Association, a member of Ducks Unlimited and held life memberships in Canada,! the United States, Mexico and New Zealand. Her levels of membership included Life, Grand Slam, Perpetuity, Heritage and Benefactor. Vona enjoyed sewing, art, crafts and her chocolate labs. Vona's dogs were even DU members and some held Legacy Greenwing memberships. Vona was one of the ladies listed as the sponsor of the Ladies Project in Regina, Canada. She loved the waterfowl and was very proud to say that she was able to put something back for the future generations. Just last week she was honored by the returning geese landing on her roof. As she would say, they're back. Survivors include her husband: Robert L. Middleton, Meridian, Ida., formerly of Modale; brother, Jon Peckenpaugh and his wife, Cheryl, and their children, Greenbelt, Md.; sisters, Gloria Lamphear and her husband, Frank, and their children, Sioux City; Judy Beeman and her husband, Gary, and their children, Sioux City; aunt, Betsy Pridgeon, Marshalltown and Mesa, Ariz. Funeral Services will be held at 10:! 30 a.m. today (Friday, March 2) at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missou ri Valley, Pastor Shurmaine McAlpine, officiant.     3. 11 Jun 1914 Missouri Valley Times: (four separate articles) Nephew Killed in Nebraska: Mondamin, Ia, June 4; Frank Wallace, who was badly injured in an auto accident near De Sota, Neb., and in which his son was killed, as well as a neighbor boy, is a brother of J.C. and R.B. Wallace, of this place and Wm. Wallace, of Modale, and was well known here, having lived here for an number of years previous to his moving to Nebraska. As soon as the accident was learned of here, J.C. and R.B. Wallace left for the scene of the accident. It was reported here that Frank was on his way here at the time of the accident, to be at the bedside of his brother Will, who is very low at his home near Modale, but according to later advice this was not the case. William Wallace, age 52 years died at his farm home five miles north west of town, Friday evening, after a lingering illness from Brights Disease. Interment was made at Calhoun Sunday. He was a brother of Frank Wallace who came near being killed by the Omaha passenger train at DeSota, last week. Mrs. Iva Vittitoe of Woonsocket, S.D. is spending a week with her mother, Mrs. Wallace. Much Trouble For Wallace Family: Mondamin, IA, June 8: While attending the funeral of the Wallace boy who was killed in an auto accident near DeSota Neb., at his home. Friday the relatives, G.H., J.C. and R.B. Wallace and their families of this place, received word that their brother, Frank Wallace who was badly injured at the same time the son was killed, was much worse, and they at once hastened to Omaha, where he is in the hospital, and had hardly arrived at his bedside, when they received word of the death of heir brother, Will, at his home near Modale. Word has not been received here as to how the injured brother is getting along, nor has funeral arrangements been made for the brother who died near Modale.

Would love to have his obit. I find the headston for thier son, Albert, in Linwood but cant quite make out the dates. In the 1920 census their grandsons,Ralph Waldo and Arthur Jennings Powers (sons of Winfield Scott Powers) are living with them. He was raised in Little Sioux and Pisgah and attended school in Blencoe. He started farming with his parents until he joined the United States Army in 1953. Gary married Joanne Harper on June 27, 1954, at the RLDS church in Pisgah. He was honorably discharged in 1955, and worked at a dairy farm in Onawa for one year and in Moorhead for two years for Park Moorhead. Gary then started farming on his own in the Pisgah area. He retired from farming and moved into town and worked as a mechanic for Hutchinson Chevy Garage for 17 years. He was also the maintenance man for the town of Pisgah. He retired from this position in 1996. Gary was a volunteer fireman for 27 years for the town of Pisgah. He was a member of the Community of Christ and the American Legion Post 408 in Pisgah. Gary enjoyed farming, camping and hunting. He also enjoyed dancing and card playing. Gary loved to spend time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Gary died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Community Memorial Hospital, in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 27 days. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie Shearer and Earl Shearer. Clergy was Rev. Ron Keith with music by Mrs. Merrill McElwain and Andrea Schicilone. Selections were "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pall bearers were Anthony Byrd, Aaron Morhain, Christopher Morhain, Nathan Morhain, Ken Morhain and Mark Byrd. A military graveside service was given by Weiss Post #143. Final resting place is in Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine. Jay Alvin Runyan was born June 19, 1933, to Grace (Mills) and Jay Liston Runyan in Woodbine. Jay attended country school and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1952. Jay married Joann Nuzum on Sept. 17, 1955, and they made their home in Omaha, Neb. Two weeks later Jay was drafted into the Army. After Jay's honorable discharge the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa where Jay was an ambulance driver. He then went to work for the Swift Packing Plant. In 1969, they moved to Grand Island, Neb. And continued his employment with Swift before transferring to Omaha in 1979. Jay retired from Swift in 1993. Jay worked part time at the post office, Shopko and Tufty's Car Place. Jay was a member of Faith Christian Church in Omaha and the Millard American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and reading. He also loved to play cards and travel. Jay died on Mon., March 12, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 73 years, eight months and 21 days. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Vicky Runyan on Nov. 15, 2004. Funeral services were held March 13, 2007 at the Followers of Christ Church in Woodbine with Elders Royl Roden and Danny Mefferd officiating. Musicians were Jane Roden and Lou Waite. Vocalist Rick Powell sang, "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art." Herb's Girls sang, "In the Garden." Pall bearers were Brian Ganzhorn, Greg Ganzhorn, Jeff Kuhl, Kevin Ganzhorn, Andrew Cohrs, Jared Cohrs, Dave Hamblen and Bobby Brummer. Military graveside service was by Weiss Post #143. Final resting place was the Woodbine Cemetery. Herb was born August 14, 1916 in rural Logan to Claus and Minnie (Bay) Cohrs. He attended Allen #8 Country School and Woodbine High School. He was active in football, baseball, boxing and was an FFA member. Herb graduated in 1935. He then farmed the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Herb married Audrey Marshall on June 26, 1949, at the R.L.D.S. Church in Moorhead. The couple then farmed Herb's family farm. Herb also measured land and sealed corn with the ASCS office. He lived on the family farm his entire life except for the four years he was in the service, and he continued to farm up until his death. Herb was baptized in the RLDS Church in 1927. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1956 and proudly served this office the rest of his life. He was a member of the Followers of Christ Restoration Branch. Herb was on the RLDS and Followers of Christ building committees and was treasurer of the church. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He also helped any and every stray dog by giving it a home. Herb was a director of Allen #8 Country School and an Allen Township Trustee for 50 plus years. He was a county committee man, served on the election board and the Woodbine Youth Center Board and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing in Canada. The family farm was given the Century Farm recognition in 2003. Herb was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Ronald Cohrs in 1951; one brother, Elmer Cohrs; three half brothers, William, James, and Clarence Hatcher; and three half sisters, Pearl Hamer, Betty Jones, Berniece Goetsche. Survivors include his wife Audrey Cohrs of Logan; three children David (Becky) Cohrs of Woodbine, Mary (Kirk) Kersten of Logan, Bev (Scott) Ganzhorn of Woodbine; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ann Cohrs of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends. He was raised in the Moorhead and Pisgah area and attended country school in both Moorhead and Pisgah. In February of 1944 he joined the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge he returned home and married Phyllis Lorena Bothwell on August 14, 1946. The couple farmed near Moorhead. They later moved to Moorhead where Vernon had his own stock truck and corn shelling business for many years. Due to ill health, Vernon entered Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa, on September 23, 2003. He enjoyed living at Rose Vista. Nobody was a stranger; and he welcomed everybody who came in the door and all the staff with a big smile, a wave and said, "YES SIR REE!" Vernon was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church. He loved little kids and his whole life interest has been his grandkids and great grandkids. His hobbies were playing cards, camping, and watching the World Series. Vernon died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa, attaining the age of 81 years, eight months, and 21 days. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Violet Bothwell; brother, Maynard Christensen; and infant twin grandsons, Ricky and Randy Odefey. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Christensen of Woodbine, Iowa; two children, Sandra and husband Steve Fouts of Dunlap, Iowa, (son-in-law, Darrell Odefey of Moorhead, Iowa); son, Tracy Christensen of Plattsmouth, Neb.; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine, Iowa, Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ron Keith officiating. Music was provided by Mary Kay Eby and Phil Lubbers. Laverne was born November 3, 1920, to Ted and Cora E. (Goodrich) Krueger in Schleswig, Iowa. Laverne worked at Cutty's Meat Packing Plant in Sioux City, during WWII. She cleaned motels in Sioux City including the Biltmore Hotel. On October 10, 1967, Laverne married Leo Nelson and became the mother to Gordon, Neil, Ella and Marty. The couple operated the El & N Motel in Dunlap. Laverne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. She was also a member of ELCA women's group and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed going to church and the nursing home to visit people. She devoted her life to Leo and the kids. Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Nelson; and a grandson, Adam Kroll. She is survived by four children, Gordon Lembke and his wife Colleen of Sheffield, Iowa, Neil Lembke and his wife Kelly of Dow City, Iowa, Ella Malone of Dunlap, Iowa, and Marty Nelson and his wife Veronica of Dunlap, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Rubye Barthel of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Clement and Della Fouts both of Dunlap, Iowa and Shirley Nelson of Woodbine, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, March 22, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Carla Ingebretsen officiating. Musician was Alice Keith. Lorene married Jerry Hein, and the couple farmed in Dunlap, Iowa. During the winter months they traveled to California and worked in the produce industry for 20 years. Lorene was a member of the Congregational Church in Dunlap and the Church of Christ in Denison. She loved to golf and taught many golf lessons. She also enjoyed her garden. Lorene wintered in Southern California for over 20 years. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Hein; and seven siblings. She is survived by her four children, Geraldine Hein of Eugene, Ore., John Hein of Dunlap, Iowa, Richard Hein and his wife Jennifer of Dunlap, Iowa, David Hein and his wife Yolanda of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; three brothers, Herbert Burrow, Hubert Burrow, and Dennis Burrow; four sisters, Maxine Holloway, Lucile Seefluth, Nellie Hargis, and Faye Wilomoth; and many other relatives and friends.
