Albert was born July 24, 1927 in Redfield, S.D. to Elmer and Rose (Garnesy) Leonard. he started country school in Redfield and later moved with his parents to Bartlett, in 1933, and graduated from Bartlett in May of 1945. He worked at various jobs after graduating and was a member of the HQ and HQ Co., 168th Infantry, National Guard, in Council Bluffs. Albert was married to Donna Pitts, March 2, 1952, and after the marriage was a long distance truck driver to California for several years. He also farmed until he retired and moved to Persia in 1988. He was a member of the Farm Bureau for over 50 years, and was an NRA member. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and helping on the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Donna, Persia; son, David and his wife, Laura, Persia; grandsons, Mike, Loveland, Colo.; Steven, Persia; granddaughter, Julie, Persia; twin brother, Alfred, and his wife, Bernice, Harlan; and sister, Adelaide, Omaha. Funeral Services were held March 17 at the Logan Memorial Chapel, Pastor Nate Powell, officiant. Casket bearers were Roger Bruck, Jeff Gilliland, Roger Hildreth, Jr., Richard Bruck, Ken McDonald, and Duane McDonald. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery, Persia. Fouts Funeral Home, Woodbine, was in charge of arrangements. *** Shawna was killed last Thursday morning in a two-vehicle accident on Railroad Ave. (formerly Hwy. 191) north of Weston. Skye Jones was extricated from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were also hospitalized, and Pottawattamie County authorities continued to investigate the cause of the accident. He was born Oct. 31, 1909, in Bradshaw, Neb., to Hugh and Etta (Shick) Wilcox. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs and attended Simpson College and the University of South Dakota, where he earned his master's degree in music. He married Evelyn Bork on June 4, 1936, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Wilcox taught school in Hamburg, College Springs, Paulina and Carroll, before moving to Missouri Valley in 1950, where he taught until retirement. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, Masonic Lodge and Shrine. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1982. Survivors include his daughter, Sydney Jackson and husband, George, of Modale; son, Arnold Wilcox and wife, Geraldine, of Ralston, Neb.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jocquina Wilcox, of Council Bluffs and Roberta Wilcox, of Broomfield, Colo. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, with visitation to follow. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Ridgewood Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

    3. Fellow Harrison Co, IA researchers & Crystal: I have been contacted by a gal in California, she wrote, I know a gal that has "a case with a picture of a civil war person named William GILSON. There was also a lock of hair that came with the cased photograph and a small card that was signed by a lady named Iva. It read something like "who will take care of this sweet lock of hair after I'm gone?"" She found my posting w/ Wm Gilson's name in it on rootsweb. His wife, Sarah Bolter, was my half GG aunt - Sarah is the daughter of Alexander and Experience (Lowe) Bolter. William Gilson died before Sarah moved to Iowa (from Michigan). However, their two sons were raised in Harrison Co., IA. Iva, or Ivy - the gal that wrote the note, is the granddaughter of William & Sarah's, daughter to their son Sheffield. Ivy apparently never married, she died in 1977. This gal's friend is going to put the picture and case on e-bay. I have asked her to find out what price the gal might want.
