Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA June 19th, 2004 Lonny D. Peterson, 39, of Modale died June 16 at home. He was born Dec. 13, 1964, in Blair, Neb., to Jim D. and Mary Jean (Gardner) Peterson. Lonny graduated from West Harrison High School. He was a farmer in the Modale and Mondamin areas. Survivors include his parents, Jim D. and Mary, of Modale; sisters, Lori Schafer and husband, Steve, of Yoder, Wyo., Lanette Grimes of Spirit Lake, Lorraine Thomas and husband, Barry, of Modale, Louanne Dietrich and husband, Alan, of St. Joseph, Mo.; nieces and nephew: Seth Schafer, Jaryn Grimes, Callie Schafer, Paige Johnsen; great-aunt, Eva Engen of Modale; many other relatives and friends. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley with visitation to follow. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Lonny's residence at 1341 270th Trail, Modale. Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery in Missouri Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lonny D. Peterson memorial fund, for the planting of trees in the Modale area or to charity of choice.
Daily Nonpariel Council Bluffs IA June 19th, 2004 Ronald "Max" Jones, 72, of Council Bluffs died June 17 at home. He was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Riverton to Orval and Anna I. (Baker) Jones. He was a high school graduate and attended college for three years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a self-employed petroleum jobber and owner of Jones Oil Co. He owned gas stations in Missouri Valley, Adel, Council Bluffs and Omaha from 1969-90. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his son, Gene Randall Jones, in 1981 and brother, Harry Jones. Survivors include his wife, Carol (Stanley) Jones; daughter, Michelle Allen and husband, Laurence; sons, Todd Jones and Kyle Jones and wife, Jill; grandchildren, twins Tyler and Bradley Allen, Lauren Allen and Cameron Jones; sisters, Virginia Johnston and husband, James, Lois Perkins and husband, Jesse, and Clarabelle Mohatt and husband, Frank Jr.; brother, Wayne Jones, and wife, Shirley; aunt, Edith Parkinson. There will be no visitation; the body has been cremated. Memorial service will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with Chaplain Larry Harrold of Odyssey Hospice officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 88. Lunch will follow at the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Memorials may be offered to Odyssey Hospice.
The Sylvester DePugh family was enumerated in the Raglan Township, Harrison County, Iowa 1930 Federal Census. Lowell is in the SSDI records as DePugh. The rest of the family seems to have evaporated. Is there anyone researching the McColley family in Harrison County? I'm looking for the descendants of Ethel M. De Pugh McColley. She is the daughter of Sylvester "Vess" DePugh and Ruby Morgareidge. She married Winfred C. "Bubbs" McColley. I know that they had 4 children; 2 boys and 2 girls. I don't know their names or DOB. Ethel also had 4 siblings; Austin/Ostin Lyle, Leona, Joseph Lowell, and Darrel De Pugh. Lowell died in 1978 and according to SSDI his last residence was Mondamin. Butts married to July Deons July 15, 1877 and Julia Devons, married to Benjamin Mark Butts, Julia was his first wife. She died at age 22 and had had 4 children. She was married at age 18. She was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Neola to James and Amy (Thompson) Handbury. She graduated from Beebeetown High School. She was a homemaker and formerly taught school. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a resident of Honey Creek for six years after farming in the Neola area with her husband, J. Lester. She was married to her husband for 66 years until his death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lois Piper; brother, Frank Handbury; and son-in-law, Don Piper. She is survived by her son, Jerry D. and wife, Emma M., of Honey Creek; sister-in-law, Mildred Handbury of Harlan; grandchildren and spouses, Lynn Driver and Ann Kinen, Randy and wife, Lisa Driver, Deb Cain and husband, Ed, Brenda Carson and husband, John; 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Bichel officiating. Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA June 7th, 2004 DUNLAP - The funeral for Richard Franklin Miller, 72, of Dunlap, formerly of the Tennant area, will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with the Rev. James Boardman of Tennant Methodist Church officiating. Mr. Miller died June 4 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan. He was born in Harlan and graduated from Tennant High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 16, 1953 to April 14, 1953, during the Korean War, then farmed for more than 40 years. He was a member of Tennant United Methodist Church, where he served as secretary for many years; and the Shelby Cemetery Board for many years. Mr. Miller and his wife, Bonnie, of Portsmouth had been married for 42 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Ronald, of Portsmouth; and a sister, Marilyn King and husband, Harold, of Schaller. Visitation will continue today at the funeral home until 9 p.m., and the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan.
Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA June 4th, 2004 Max Bernett Marley, 82, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Logan, died Feb. 22 at Hospice of Arizona branch of St. Luke's Hospital in Phoenix. He lived most of his life in the Woodbine/Logan area. He served in the Army Air Corp in 1942-1944. He was married to Beverly Brown Petersen in Tulsa, Okla., in 1982. They lived in San Diego, Calif., Butterfield and Cassville, Mo., and Mesa. He had been the owner of the Conoco Oil Station in Logan for many years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion of Iowa, a volunteer fireman and rescue personnel for many years. He was a 50-plus year member of the Chrysolyte Lodge of Logan and Eastern Star, all of which he was very active. Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Mesa; children: Merrill of Logan, Merlene Tamney and husband, Robert, of Evans, Colo., Evelyn Bucy of Logan, Susan Pettes of Parkville, Mo., Cheryl Smith and husband, Don, of Zanesville, Ohio; stepdaughters, Vicki Kimbell and husband, Mike, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Stacy Kleven and husband, Robert, of Apple Valley, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step great-great-granddaughter.
