Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA Aug 11th, 2004 The funeral for Robert D. Royer, 78, of Council Bluffs will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. David Erickson, senior pastor, officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Mr. Royer died Aug. 9 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital of natural causes. He was born March 31, 1926, in Woodbine to Clarence and Edna (Houghton) Royer and graduated from Woodbine High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and moved to Council Bluffs in 1954. He was chief of the Mail Pay Bureau for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 39 years before his retirement in July 1987. He was a member of First Christian Church, the South Omaha Eagles Club, U.P. Oldtimers and Green Meadows Park Association. Mr. Royer and his wife, Kathleen (Boone), had been married since Sept. 27, 1951. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Mark and wife, Helen, of Austin, Texas, and John of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, twin sister Betty Thomas and husband, William, of Missouri Valley, Katherine Adams of Omaha and Carolyn Babl and husband, Walter, of Mapleton; a brother, Lynn Royer and wife, Jean, of Woodbine; three granddaughters, Renee, Lydia and Heather Royer; nieces; and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Burial will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Woodbine Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Woodbine American Legion post. Memorials may be offered to the First Christian Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.

He was born on Sept. 26, 1929, in Woodbine to Anson and Lydia Moore Riesland. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1950. Howard enjoyed painting and worked at Frito-Lay for many years. Howard is preceded in death by son Joel Riesland, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Annabelle Cox Riesland, son Duane Riesland, grandchildren Joel and Joanna Riesland, brothers Emmett and Lloyd, sisters Ethel, Edna and Pearl; sister-in-law Jenelle Riesland; a host of nieces and nephews. All services are private.
Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA Aug 10th, 2004 LOGAN - Edith (Godden) Pitt, 91, of Logan died Aug. 9 at Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley. She was born Nov. 26, 1912, in a sod house near Ainsworth, Neb., to George and Ada (Fry) Godden. She spent her formative years in the Logan area and graduated from Logan High School. She married Lawrence Pitt on Dec. 26, 1929. The couple had six children. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked as a private duty nurse. She and her husband also served as guides and custodians at the Historic General Dodge House. Mrs. Pitt was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; grandson Dale Pitt; and great-grandson David Rinkert. Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn Clinkenbeard and husband, Kenneth, of Mondamin, Gloria Martin and husband, Larry, of Phoenix; Karen Schreiner of Ankeny and Janice Spencer and husband, Bill, of Crescent; two sons, Norman Eugene and wife, Evelyn, of Logan and Marion and wife, Norma, of Honey Creek; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Visitation will begin Wednesday at noon with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Logan Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church of Logan. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery of rural Persia.

She was born July 26, 1915, in Missouri Valley to Amzie and Matilda (Kraft) Bonham. She previously lived in Omaha, moving to Missouri Valley three years ago. She was a dietician at Jennie Edmundson Hospital for 10 years and a member of Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy L. "Bud" Wilcoxen, in 1991; and a daughter, Mary Snipes. He worked for Storz Supply Co., Union Pacific Railroad and the United States Postal Service as a mail clerk for 30 yeas, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 52 years where he served on various boards and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Council Bluffs Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award; Cosmopolitan Club; American Legion Post No. 2 and NARFE. Mr. Henry and his wife, Mae (Dray) Henry, were married Aug. 22, 1948. Survivors in addition to his wife include his brother, Robert M. Henry, and wife, Frances, of Titusville, Fla.; four nieces and nephews; six great nieces and nephews; nine great-great-nieces and nephews. Eleanor L. Schleidt, 79, of Council Bluffs died Friday of natural causes at Risen Son Nursing Home. She was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Dow City to Charles and Edna (Head) Rigsby, and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1943. A homemaker and quilter, she had lived in Council Bluffs since 1949. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar and the Rosary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Schleidt Sr., on Sept. 24, 1974, her parents and a grandson, Matthew Schleidt. Survivors include daughter Suzanne Foote and husband Daniel of Council Bluffs; sons Ray Schleidt Jr. of Goodwell, Okla., Mike Schleidt and wife Sue of Atlanta, and Tim Schleidt of Council Bluffs; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and sister Patricia Nutt and husband Robert of Dunlap. A funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The Rev. Chuck Kottas, pastor, will be the celebrant. A luncheon will follow the service in St. Peter's Social Hall. A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with visitation following until 8:30. Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA July 27th, 2004 LOGAN - H. Romain "Sam" Adams, 90, of Logan died July 25 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. On May 22, 1940, Romain married M. Katherine Royer. To this union were born a daughter and two sons. The couple farmed in the Woodbine area until 1953 when they moved to Logan. In Logan, Romain went into the tank wagon business. He later sold cars and picked up the nickname of Sam, owned a rock truck and lastly worked as an alcoholism counselor. Romain was a member of the Christian Church in Logan and had served as a deacon and later as an elder for several years. He was a longtime member and Past Master of the Chrysolite Masonic Lodge No. 420 AF & AM in Logan. Romain was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Carol Jean, two brothers, four sisters and daughter-in-law Glenette Hillman Adams. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Katherine of Omaha; two sons, Terry Adams and his wife, Carolyn, of Omaha and Keith Adams and his wife, Linda, of Council Bluffs; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Othel Adams and wife, Lorie, of Omaha. Family visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 with a Masonic service at 7 at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. There are 3 tombstones in the lot. Patrick Mulvihill August 15, 1826 to February 3, 1908 Catherine, wife of Patrick Mulvihill, February 29, 1832 to January 17, 1900 Alvin J., son of W &M Lacey, March 7, 1900 : 1 year, 11 months, 20 days. I also went to the library and found obit of Patrick. It says that he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lacey, in Woodbine. Survived by 3 sons; William, Charles and Jim, and 3 daughters; Mrs. Lacey, Mrs. Coughlin, and Mrs. Peters.
