She was born July 26, 1911, in rural Harrison County to George and Anna Olsen. She had been an employee of the Chieftain Hotel, Omaha Credit Bureau, Brodkey Jewelry and Cogley Clinic until her retirement. She was a former local and state president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Association of Letter Carriers. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold and Elmer Olsen; and her husband, Walter, in 1989. Survivors include a son, Loyal Fairman; two daughters, Joyce Maurer and Mary and husband, Bob Poe, of Council Bluffs; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Family visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Henry-Livingston Funeral Chapel, 121 S. Seventh St. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Chaplain John Farrell of Hospice Preferred Choice officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Woodlands Rehabilitation Center or Hospice Preferred Choice.

He lived in Council Bluffs since 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for Wynne Transport Company. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0333 in Essex.     2. Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA Nov 16th, 2004 FLORENCE, Ky. - Doris (Whannell) McCurley, 92, formerly of Council Bluffs, died Nov. 10 in Florence, Ky. She was born July 25, 1912, in Toronto, Ontario, the first of five children. Her parents, Hugh Whannell and Agnes (Chalmers) Whannell, were both Scottish immigrants. Doris graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1931. She attended college in Cedar Falls before beginning her teaching career. Her earliest teaching assignments were in Iowa's rural one-room schools. She ended her career in the Council Bluffs public schools as a kindergarten teacher. Doris married Robert McCurley in 1936, and they farmed north of Minden. They had three children, Hugh McCurley, Roger McCurley, and Amy (McCurley) Baluchi. The family moved to Council Bluffs in 1953 and remained there until retirement. They were both active members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Council Bluffs. Doris is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bob McCurley; her two sons, Hugh and Roger; her sister Bette Grant; two brothers, Don Whannell and Paul Whannell; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial donations may be sent to Faith Community United Methodist Church, 4310 Richardson Road, Independence, KY 41051.

He died Thursday, November 23, 2000, at his home in Dunlap. Leo graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Dunlap and at-tended St. Ambrose College in Davenport for one year. November 14, 1951, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Mitchell. To this union seven sons and one daughter were born. They lived and farmed in the Dunlap area most of their life except for a brief period in Ankeny. At one time he owned and operated Sullivan Feed and Grain in Dow City, Dunlap and Earling. In recent years he sold Pioneer Seed Corn. Leo loved children, livestock, farming and working in sales. Sales work gave him an opportunity to make so many friends. He was known as the Bubble Gum Man by his customers' children, because he always had bubble gum for them. Sometimes he would drive up by their mail box and throw in a handful of bubble gum. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Jim and Joe and one great-grandson, Kobie Garner. Survivors include his wife Norma of Dunlap; daughter, Jean and husband Wayne Beam of Ankeny; sons, Leo A., Bart, Joe and wife Beth, Dave, Roger, John and wife Dede all of Dunlap, and Dan of Hillsboro, Texas; six grandchildren; two sisters, Delores and husband Randy Drahota of Omaha, Neb., Mildred Claire and husband Abe Goblirsch of Ralston, Neb; brothers, Bob and wife Theresa of Earling, Sheral of Cannon Falls, Minn., Mike of Carroll, and Kenny and wife Sharon of Dunlap; and a host of other relatives and many, many friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap Monday morning, November 27, 2000. Rev. Paul Strittmatter was celebrant for the 10:30 a.m. service. Musician was Marilyn Grote and vocalists were Tina Sullivan, Eve Vonne Muff and Jerry Baldwin. Interment was made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Honor-ary casket bearers were Jennifer Whitenack, Sue Sullivan, Travis Sullivan, Josie Mefferd, James Sullivan, Nicholas Sullivan and Reggie Graeve. Casket bearers were Leo A. Leo worked for a seed company and the Schemmer Rock Quarry in Logan right after graduating from school. December 1, 1956 Leo married Betty Barry at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. In 1958, he went to work for Safeway Grocery Stores in Fort Dodge as a truck driver. In 1960, the family was transferred to Omaha, Neb., where Leo was the distribution center supervisor and in 1981 they transferred to Seattle where he was the produce warehouse manager. In 1984, they transferred to Salt Lake City and in 1987 to Denver as a truck supervisor. Leo retired from Safeway in November of 1995 and the couple returned to Omaha. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha; he had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and was the President of the Safeway Credit Union in the 1970's. Leo died Thursday, December 21, 2000, at his home in Omaha, Neb. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, one in infancy and Catherine Gard and brother, John Murphy. Leo is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Murphy of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Cindi and her husband Wayne Harm of Omaha, Neb., Diana and her husband Lonnie Abelbeck of Mohnton, Pa., Kim and her husband Rick Page of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren, Trisha, Kimberly and Brad Harm; two sisters, Rosalie Sennett of Mesa, Ariz., and Geraldine Alcantar of Des Moines; two brothers, Joe Murphy and his wife Debbie of Omaha, Neb., and Tom Murphy and his wife Maxine of Dunlap and many other relatives and friends.

    2. Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help me with some information. I am trying to track down my gg-grandfather's birth record, but I have been unsucessful. I have recieved a copy of his death certificate and it indicates that he was born in Defiance, but there is no record of it. It could have been Dunlap as his place of birth. His name was Marthur James MCINTOSH b. 11 Oct 1910. His parents were Mert L. MCINTOSH and Carrie M. NEWCOMB. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Amanda
