Dear Walter I quote from the book "Homestead Fever" a compilation of stories from the area around Denton, Montana River Press,Wednesday, June 19, 1889. The Judith Basin.--" The Benton & Billings railroad will pass through one of the finest sections of country in Montana, generally known as the Judith Basin or valley. It is drained by Wolff, Scull, Willow and Sage creeks, Ross Fork, Trout, Beaver, Cottonwood, Plum and Salt creeks, all rising in the Little Belt, Snowey and Judith mountains." The area was opened for homsesteads of 160 acres in this time frame. In 1909, the government increased the acreage to 320 acres, which was an added inducement and the proving up period was lowered from 5 to 3 years. " This is a big area. Some of the people stayed and some left in the 1920's when times were rough. More left in the 1930's. There are still Mossey, Perry Martin, and Rowe descendants in the area. The Brading name is familiar, but I do not know if they are still here. Webb Procter from Sidney, also moved to the Denton area. I could not find Ethel Smith. I looked in the 1900, 1910 censuses. Hope this helps satisfy your questions. Audrey Biglen grand-daughter of S.W.S. Rowe
