"Stroke Fatal to Pioneer".-- Florence E. Vaughan, son of Ara B. and Rosina Vaughan, was born on a farm three miles north of Hamburg, October 1, 1865, and passed from this life June 22, 1935, at the age of 69 years 8 months 22 days. All of his life, except about three years when he was a young man engaged in business in California, was spent in Fremont county where he died, within three miles of the place of his birth. He was united in marriage October 1, 1901 to Lula J. Richards, who survives him. He was a graduate of the Western Normal College at Shenandoah, also a graduate of a business college at Omaha. He was a student of law for sometime, but spent most of his life in farming. When a young man he united with the Methodist church of Sidney, of which he was still a member. His parents were prominent among the pioneer settlers of this section, and he lived to see many changes take place since his childhood. He was a long-standing member of the Masonic lodge, also of the Knigthts of Pythias organization. He leaves to mourn his death his devoted wife, one brother, L. K. Vaughan, of Woodland, California, and three sisters Miss Ella Vaughan, of Norfolk, Nebraska, Mrs. Xantia Milliken of Elgin, Nebraska, and Mrs. Maude Richards of Sidney. Although having no children, he was always a great favorite among the children and young people, and many were the social gatherings enjoyed at his hospitable home by his nieces and nephews, and his friends both young and old. The young people and children of his community were always sure of a hearty welcome, and he enjoyed their pleasures with them. He was also a real friends and helper to the younger people as he was always glad to aid them with their problems and decisions. His acquaintances were many, and all who knew him were numbered among his friends. His passing will leave much sorrow in his community as "a friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Sidney cemetery. The pallbearers were six Richards boys, all nephews of the deceased. Masonic rittes were held at the grave, and large group of brother Masons were present to pay their last repsects.
