October 5, 1933. "Twenty Years Ago": --L. H. Abbey, for more than forty years a resident of Sidney and community, passed away Sunday. As a farmer and carpenter, the deceased became a resident of Iowa in 1862. --W. S. Liggett and J. W. Tilman came home Monday from Scott City, Kansas, where they had been on a land "deal". --A. G. Malcom of Prairie township and who had lived in one community fifty-four years was planning to move to the Coleman farm east of Farragut in the spring. --SIDNEY TRENDS: The last of the plank walks around the square was disappearing. J. W. Tilman was tearing out a section from the Nix cafe to Knights of Pythias hall and planned to lay a concrete walk. --SIDNEY WATER SUPPLY: Mayor G. T. Hatten had called a mass meeting for Friday evening to be held at the courthouse for the purpose of hearing the report of a water expert concerning the water at Tolen Springs. Sidney's supply of water was practically exhausted and officials were seeking means of combatting the situation.
