January 31, 1946. "Mrs. Carrie Willey Passes Away".-- Funeral services were conducted from the Sidney Methodist church for Mrs.Carrie Willey Monday afternoon with Rev.Fay Marriott in charge. Mrs. Harry Davis and Mrs.Earl Cowden sang, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought", "That Beautiful Land" and "Rock Of Ages." Mrs. Harley Walker accompanied at the piano. The ladies of the W. S. C.S. were in charge of the floral tributes. Pallbearers were Clem Maher, Harry Bennett, Leroy Wilson, R. H. Travis, W. W. Van Eaton and Harvey Melville. Interment was in the Sidney cemetery. Carrie Etta Willey, daughter of Benjamin F. and Sarah Cathryn Bowman, was born September 28, 1865 at Havanna, Il., and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Beulah Hannah at Lake View, Ia., January 25, at the age of 80 years 3 months and 27 days. On November 29, 1883 she was united in marriage to David Sylvester Willey at Belvidere, Neb. To this union six children were born. One, Lois Violet and Mr. Willey, preceded her in death. They came to Iowa in 1899 and with the exception of one year spent in Henderson, have lived at Sidney. She confessed Christ and united with the church at an early age. Upon coming to Sidney she transferred her membership to the Methodist church and has been a faithful member of the church for 46 years. For the past few years due to her age and declining health she has be nunable to attend church regularly, but has maintained a lively interest in all its activities. She is survived by her five children, Delbert E. Willey of Claremont, Calif.; Mrs. Lulu Waters of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Beulah Hannah of Lake View, Ia.; Paul B.Willey of Omaha, and Donald L. Willey of Grand Island, Neb.; three brothers, Fred Bowman of Portland,Ore.; Will E. Bowman, of Havannah, Ill., and Paul A. Bowman of Abiline, Kans.; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Brinegar of Pasadena, Calif; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs.J. H. Hannah of Lake View, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Paul B.Willey of Omaha; Donald L. Willey of Grand Island, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Bowman of Abiline, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Burton Ettleman of Dow City, Ia.; and Mrs. and Mrs. Virgil Norton of Farragut. N.B.: Her husband, David Sylvester Willey (d. Nov. 20, 1929) was a half-brother of Warren Monroe Willey who married Olive Louise McWilliams of Lacy Grove.--W.F.
