His place was about two or three miles south of present Sidney, Iowa, if you could be looking for it on present day maps, but at the time was recognized as the very northern part of Holt county, Missouri. When those Indians left for Kansas, of course its relevance faded, so Hitchcock picked up his family and moved to Sutter's Fort, California. There (at one time) was an article on this wagon train by ?Rufus? Burrows/Burroughs, a relative of Hitchcock's, which I found on Google. Try googling those pertinent names and see if it still comes up......Too, as I remember, Hitchcock's wife was Nancy Rice: That family has a family genealogy somewhere: Perhaps you could find that. The Rice's had been army officers before taking a trade with the Indians.--Walter Farwell Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
