"Alene Schooley died August 3". -- Funeral services for Alene June Schooley, 89, of Sidney, IA, formerly of Thurman, IA, were held August 8 at the Church of Christ in Sidney,IA, with Pastor Bob Milliken officiating. Mrs. Schooley died August 3, 2009 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE, following a brief illness. The memory registry was cared for by Kim Linkenhoker. The flower committee was Barb Bond, Mary Gillespie, Rose Linkenhoker, Carol Jones, Pense Durfey and LeNae Linkenhoker. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Linkenhoker, Robert Linkenhoker, Shawn Harris, Mike Reed, Jim Durfey, Jim McCollum, Greg Linkenhoker, Sr., Neal Harris, John Reed, Larry Gillespie, Eldwin McCollum, Don Mills and Bill Johnson. Pallbearers were Michael Linkenhoker, Jr., Joe Linkenhoker, Benjamin Harris, Josh Linenhoker, Matthew Linkenhoker, Dalton Haris, Tanner Harris, Justin Cox and Greg Linekenhoker, Jr. Interment was at the Thurman, IA, Cemetery. Crawford-Marshall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are directed to the Sidney Church of Christ or the Sidney Rescue Squad. Alene June Schooley was born May 8, 1920 in Percival, IA, to Samuel Robert Reed and Coramae (McBeth) Reed. On August 17, 1940, she was married to Clarence Schooley in Tabor, IA. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters for over 62 years and the Sidney Church of Christ. She served as a State Representative for Southwest 8 Senior Citizens Advisory Board for several years and for four years was advisor to then Iowa Governor Terry Branstad on the Senior Citizens' Council, for which she and her husband received an award and many accolades. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence Schooley; daughter Connie Harris; infant son Larry Schooley, sister Wynona Smith; brother Carl Reed; and a grandson Michael E. Linkenhoker, Sr. Survivors include two daughters, Sharlyn Trudell of Thurman, IA, and Sheila McCollum of Sidney,IA; six grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a sister Marjorie Stevens of Ralston, NE; brother-in-law Jack Smith of Shenandoah, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
