Sept. 24, 2009. Thurman & Bartlett News, by Sharlyn Trudell. "Hills and Heritage Festival was a shining success".-- "Well, Thurman did it again. We had a wonderful Hills and Heritage Festival. It started out Friday night with dance at the old gym with the Forney Band from Missouri providing the music. I know everyone enjoyed the music. "Saturday was a very busy day for many of us. They started out the Festival Saturday night with the presentation of the American flag and the Native American flag and the American Legion flag. This presentation was done by a member of the a Native American Legion of the Pottawattamie Nation of Kansas. Jim Potter from the tribe talked on tribal ways and beliefs. The tribal members danced several dances including a round dance. "The drummers were very good, and they are a competitive group. They compete all over the country with other drum groups. "The crowd was invited to join with the tribal members in doing the native dances. Everyone who joined in seemed to have a good time. Laurie Stein joined in, and she sure did a good job keeping time to the beat of the drum...." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
