July 23, 1925. "KMA NEARING COMPLETION".-- The broadcasting station which will be operated by the May Seed company at Shenandoah is nearing completion and it is expected that the station will be ready to go on the air in about three weeks, as soon as the new serial towners are erected. The towers have arrived and are being erected by the Van Ness Construction company of Omaha. A base of reinforced concrete four feet square and six feet deep is being used. It will be ten days or two weeks before the the towers are completed. In erecting them the work men started at the top first and keep buildng under, using thirty or forty feet of scaffolding and block and tackle. The towers will be 150 feet high, and will be lighted with electricity at night. The wave length of the station will be 252 meters. It is of the 500 watt type and similar to the stations at New Orleans and Bristol, Oklahoma. B.B.: I suppose there are quite a few who remember KMA's "Country School", the Blackwood Brothers gospel quartet and the Everly family, dating from the late thirties and the forties. The last two became nationally prominent. Almost as eye-catching for me were the twinkling stars in the ceiling of the KMA auditorium; for me they were simply wonderful! I had left Fremont county by the time Evelyn Birkby appeared with her "Up A Country Lane", but I know my mother made sure to turn her on every morning. -- W.F.
