My understanding (conjecture, a few facts strung together) is that he came to US from England (probably Leicester), fought with Indiana in the Civil War, I have more info on that. He marched with Sherman to the Sea, died in Civil War veterans home in Marion, Indiana. He married Mrs Sarah Bevins Nichols in Omaha NE in 1888 and had 3 children (I think). I know that Lee Douglas was his son with certainty, but Lee used the Nichols last name. I do not know what became of the marriage. His name was mentioned in an obit for her daughter, my grandmother, who died at 26 or so. He's a large missing picture of the family puzzle. All of the children used the name Nichols. Sarah is in Clear Creek CO in 1880 with the 4 daughters of Thomas Scotton Nichols; both from England. She re-appears in Knox, Starke County, IN running a dairy farm with 3 additional children born in Omaha. His name was never mentioned, he lived not that far away, and Sarah could have used that Civil War pension during the depression. Sarah lived to be 90. Any information greatly appreciated.
