P. Lathrop, of Persia, Iowa, was born in Woodbine, Iowa, March 26, 1884 and died in the parsonage home at Randolph, Monday, January 27. When she was five years old the family moved to Defiance. Here she spent a happy joyous girlhood. Completing the public schools at that place she began teaching a country school near Rockwell City, Iowa. Later she accepted a position in the Intermediate Department of the public schools of Persia, Iowa, to which place the family had moved. She was united in marriage June 24, 1903 to Rev. Peter Jacobs, then pastor of the Methodist church of Persia. She shared his pastorate at this place until the end of the conference year. The folloiwng year her husband accepted the superintendency of the public schools of Persia. In the fall of 1904 they accepted the pastorate at Tabor and served this charge for three years. Silver city next enjoyed their ministry for a similar period of time. In the fall of 1910 they moved to Arlington Heights, Ill., that her husband might complete a three years course in Garrett Biblical Institute at Evanston. The fall of 1912 they were appointed to Imogene and continued one year. In 1914 the conference appointments placed them at Randolph. Here they were welcomed into the homes and into the open hearts of a most appreciative people. Here they found the most genial fellowship and the most loyal response to their worthy ambitions and dreams. Mrs. Jacobs was converted at Defiance when but a girl eleven years of age, under the pastorate of the beloved Rev. Daniel Pruitt. She was the first convert in what proved to be one of the most gracious revival meetings ever held in that church. Her response to the call of God made its appeal to others. She immediately united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at whose altars she had found saving grace and continued faithful in its fellowship and service. She leaves a husband, three children, Maurine, Frieda and Uede, her father and mother, a sister, Mrs. Arthur Jacobs, Omaha, relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the church Thursday afternoon at 2:30. The music was favorite hymns sung by the quartet. The six pall bearers were members of the official board.
