(N.B.: I believe this was Kathryn Monson; she became a doctor and moved to California. Harry Monson ran a gas station in Prairie township on the highway between Sidney and Shenandoah during the great depression.--W.F.) Mrs. John Rasmussen called Bryan Kesterson Thursday from Seatle, WA, telling him her husband had died May 5th. She will be remebered as Wanda Smith, who taught school here. He was an electrical engineer for 29 years in Seattle.--Beacon-Enterprise of May 24, 1984 Mary K. (O'Neal) Rasmussen of Gresham, OR, on Feb. 19, 1990 was buried near her husband, Clifford, in Wenatchee, Oregon. (A brother Richard O'Neal lives in Council Bluffs, Iowa.). She leaves sons Robert Rasmussen and James Rasmussen and a daughter Mrs. Gary (Debra) Buck. (N.B.: Clifford Rasmussen grew up on the west side of the Riverton - Randolph road, 1/2 miles south of the Hiway 2 intersection. Mary and Richard's father was foreman of a DeKalb corn detassling crew during the second World War. Richard, who attended the Council Bluffs school, had lost most of his hearing, but could hear the sound of his father's old car when it was revved up! This simple event delighted Richard so very much....During this same time, Mary and Clifford lived in Sidney. --W.F.) Rev. Stauffer and wife from Peoria, Ill., arrived at Farragut for a visit.-- Dec. 6, 1900. (N.B.: Rev. Stauffer married my grandparents in 1891; he, Cory (Ross) Scott, and my grandmother, Addie Ross Farwell, colaborated to make a colored pencil drawing of the prairie dogs on old man Moody's farm just north of Walnut creek in Walnut township. This prairie dog colony on the Farragut - Imogene road existed from the time the government surveyed the site in the 1850's up to just a few years after 1930.--W.F.) Jay Troxel of Seal Beach, CA, visited Bob Troxel's home and attended the 1933 Farragut class reunion. -- Aug. 5, 1982 (N.B.: J.J. Troxel's parents lived at the foot of Sycamore Hill where the South Tier road rose out of the valley of the East Nishnabotna. Sycamore Country School stood near the crest of this hill. -- W.F.)
