Note that they have his wife's maiden name as Madison (I think this a typo - as they were married in Ft. Madison). Her name was Cornelia - not Cordelia as they have listed in the Fremont County Herald. Her tombstone at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City reads Cornelia Reed. I am the g-g-grandaughter of Samuel Reed, his son P.H. (Perry Hilburn) being my g-grandfather. The son named as Elbert in the Fremont County Herald - his name was Samuel Elbert Reed, Jr. ... Carol (Reed) Jones DEATH NOTICE IN NEBRASKA CITY NEWS PRESS DATED JUNE 22, 1923 Was a Pioneer of Iowa From Monday's Daily Samuel Reed, who has been a resident of Percival, Iowa, for more than half a century, died Saturday evening after an illness of more than a year, suffering from several complications, but old age was principal ailment. He was quite well known in this city visiting here frequently, and transacting most of his business here. He was born December 21, 1844, in Iowa, and was married fifty-seven years ago at Fort Madison, Iowa to Miss Cornelia Madison. He was a member of Company D. 13th Iowa Infantry, serving during the Civil War, and at it's conclusion came to Percival, Iowa, where he engaged in farming. He was quite successful, and a few years ago retired, moving to Percival to make his home. He is survived by his wife, and the following children: P. H. Reed, Percival, S. E. Reed, Burwell, Neb.; Mrs. Ada Hovalter(?), St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. Nellie Hampton, Worland, Wyo.; Mrs. Olive Keyser, Randolph, Iowa; Mrs. Pella Copeland, Fargo, N.D.
