August 19, 1943.--"Word is Received From Capt. Everett Mead".--The first of this week Mrs. Everett Mead received a card from the Imperial Japanese Army that her husband, Capt. Everett V. Mead, was interned at the Phillipine Military Prison No. 1, was in good shape and wanted to be remembered to everybody. This was a printed card and filled in with a typewriter and the only writing was his signature across one corner, but she and his father are both quite sure it is his signature. The card is undated. On April 4, 1942, the war department notified her that he had been wounded. Some six months later the Red Cross notified that he was presumably a prisoner of war. This is the first direct word from him in all these months. N.B.: Everett V. "Tony" Mead was born about 1910 in Washington township, Fremont county, the son of Frank and Annie Mead, and grandson of Talbert and Lucretia (Nicewanger) Mead. He married Lydia Matilda Barnes on March 25, 1935. Everett Mead died June 18, 1977.--W.F.
