This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Lucas, Harris, Utterback Classification: Cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/949.1.4 Message Board Post: Laurie: Recently, while looking for something else, I ran across this record regarding the Madison township cemetery, which I believe to be the same as the Utterback: John N. Harris, born August 7, 1831 in Belmont county, Ohio -d. April 24, 1888; married Julia Ann Lucas, b. July 23, 1840 in Jersey county, Illinois -d. July 22, 1913; married on Nov. 15, 1857. Methodists. Buried at Hamburg where he was a druggist. In 1833 he emigrated to Monroe county, Ohio; in 1854 to Fairfield, IOwa; in 1856 to Fremont county; his wife is lthe granddaughter of the first Territorial Governor of Iowa, Robert Lucas...Her obituary says she died on NOrth Argyle street in Hamburg; was the granddaughter of the first territorial governor of Iowa; moved to Missouri as a child; to Fremont county in 1850; after her marriage at Sidney, moved to Hamburg in 1863; at one time they lived on a farm east of Hamburg. Now, we need to do a little associating: The Hamburg "Reporter" of Nov. 16, 2000 in a column entitled "Forty years ago" says that "Madison Church celebrated its 75th birthday on Nov. 20, 1960. Its land was donated by J.N. Harris and the church was dedicated in 1885." So it looks as if the Utterback cemetery was probably on land that at one time belonged to the granddaughter of the Iowa's first territorial governor. I know, it's not much, but I think it is interesting.--Walter
