But it seems that there is little hope of ever finding a marriage record if they were married in Nishnabotna Country. I was told in the 1960's that the first book of Holt county marriages, 1841 - 1845, had been missing from the court house at Oregon before the oldest person around the town had had a chance to see it. Fortunately, the first book of Atchison county marriages, 1845+ is available. And lastly, the Jesuit priests who made missionary trips up and down the St. Joseph - Council Bluffs road 1839+ kept their marriages in the so - called St. Mary's Register, now in St. Mary's, Kansas. I have never seen a complete list of these marriages.
