    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Earliest marriages in Nishnabotna Country. Classification: Marriage Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/1828.1.1 Message Board Post: If it be true that they were married before they came to Nishnabotna Country, I wonder if an 1840 census, somewhere, would show both names in the same county--where they might have been married? But it seems that there is little hope of ever finding a marriage record if they were married in Nishnabotna Country. I was told in the 1960's that the first book of Holt county marriages, 1841 - 1845, had been missing from the court house at Oregon before the oldest person around the town had had a chance to see it. Fortunately, the first book of Atchison county marriages, 1845+ is available. And lastly, the Jesuit priests who made missionary trips up and down the St. Joseph - Council Bluffs road 1839+ kept their marriages in the so - called St. Mary's Register, now in St. Mary's, Kansas. I have never seen a complete list of these marriages.
