I'm copying the following from Mabe's notes: 1850: Federal Census, Fremont county, Iowa George W. Lucas....43....b. Ohio Jane.......................31........Ohio Julia Ann.................9.........ILL Emily......................7.........ILL Hannah...................5.........ILL Mary.......................1........MO 1852: Fremont county Census, "Sidney township" G.W. Lucas.....1m....7f 1854: Fremont county Census, "Sidney township" G.W. Lucas.....48.....b. OH....5 years in the State Jane................38.........OH....5 Julia A.............16.........ILL.....5 Emily M...........13.........ILL.....5 Hannah............11.........ILL.....5 Elizabeth..........9..........MO....5 Mary J..............7..........MO....5 Mynervia...........4..........Iowa...4 Martha F...........2..........Iowa...2 N.B.: George Washington Lucas claimed Gov. Robert Lucas of Iowa Terrlitory was his father. Back in Ohio, there is ample evidence that Gov. Lucas fathered illegitmate children in his younger days. Napoleon Bonaparte Lucas who lived east of Saint Louis, Missouri, was another such son....G.W. Lucas was in the State General Asembly when he entered the bill which eventually moved the state capitol from Iowa City to Des Moines. Dr. Dewey of Sidney was the senator at the same time, and it was Senator Dewey who was able to muster enough votes for the bill's passage. G.W. Lucas lived in Lacy's Grove, northwest of Sidney, but later moved to Holt county, Missouri.--W.F.
