Feb. 1, 1940. "Thurman News": (1).--Cecil Martin took some hogs to the Omaha market Thursday, but was too late to have them sold that day. (N.B.: Earlier in Fremont county, farmers were marketing the animals they raised in the Chicago markets.)....(2).--Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chambers of Barlett visited Wednesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Crouse.....(3).--Wallace Surface and family were Sunday dinner guests at the home of his mother, Mrs. Alice Surface and daughters in Glenwood.....(4).--Mrs. Glen Stanley and children who have been staying with his mother, Mrs. Lucy Stanley, moved to rooms at the hotel Friday.....(5).--Roland Davison and family and Mr. and Mrs. Oren Ewell drove to Treynor Sunday to spend the day with the latter's daughter, Mrs. Don Keefer, and family....(6).--Mrs. T.E. Wilson received word last week that her sister, Mrs. Emma Buckingham, of Council Bluffs was very ill from an attack of heart trouble....(7).--Mr. and Mrs. Ear! l Maxwell drove to Hamburg Sunday to spend the day with their daughter, Mrs. Joe Hill, and family who moved from this vicinity a few weeks ago.....(8).--Mr. and Mrs. Madison Leeka, Mrs. Paul Hansen and Jay Leeka attended the funeral of Susie Dunsdon at Tabor Saturday. Mrs. Hansen and Jay Leeka assisted with the music.....(9).--Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson were pleasantly surprised Friday night when the member of the Country club and their families came in to spend the evening and before leaving the guests presented them with a gift. The Jackson family has lived for about 14 years on the same farm and because of the high esteem they hold in this community the farewell party was planned by their neighbors who wanted to wish them well in their new home in New Haven, WY, where they are moving this week.....(10).--Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Stanley attended church services in Shenandoah Sunday and remained to spend the day with her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Chizum.
