September 16, 1897.--A very pleasant family gathering took place Tuesday of last week at the residence of Mrs. Geo. A. Smith, living five miles north of town, the immediate family consisting of mother and seven children survive. It was indeed a pleasant meeting and one long to be remembered by the family. One sad feature was the absence of the father, and husband, whose place Death had made vacant more than two years ago. It was the second time death had entered this family within twenty-four years. At midday the family and friends assembled in the grove and surrounded a table loaded to its fullest capacity with good things. The entire family gathering consisted of mother, five sons, two daughters, five daughter-in-law and thirteen grand children. The entire family was present with the exception of G.C. Reeves and two sons, of Joplin, Missouri, and C. H. Christy (probably should read Josiah A. Christy.--W.F.) of Vilas, Colorado. Mrs. Smith has lived here more than thirty years. It will probably be the last meeting of this kind, as the mother is now seventy-four years old. It was a pleasure to her to have her children about her once more, as it was the first time in twenty-four years. In the evening refreshments, consisting of melons, ice cream and cake were served and the compnay wended their way homeward feeling that it was good for them to be there.
