July 23, 1931.--Charles Duncan, who for many years has farmed in the community down near the river bridge, passed away Thursday in St. Mary's hospital in Nebraska City after an illness of about two weeks. Death was due to pneumonia following a sunstroke. Charles Duncan was born in Mercer county, Illinois, January 18, 1870, and came to southwestern Fremont county with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Duncan. After leaving school he engaged in farming, which line of labor he followed his entire life, and at the time of his death was a tenant on the Schwaderer and Shannon land. He was a hard working man and had scores of friends who will regret his passing. He leaves to mourn, two children, Mrs. Ernest Stearns and Carl Duncan both of Hamburg, also two brothers, John and James, living neighbors to the deceased, a sister Mrs. William E. Griffin, of Nebraska City. The body lay in state at the Fassbender funeral parlors until 9:30 Saturday morning when it was taken to Mrs. Griffin's home until the funeral services Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the First Baptist church, Rev. Chalmer L. Wiseman officiating. Burial was made in Wyuka cemetery.
