This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Keeler, Copeland, Turbeyville, Bobbitt Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/1433.1.4 Message Board Post: Bill: One of my Copeland sheets has this note: "1939: Minnie H. Bobbitt, 71, of Thurman, says she lived one-fourth of a mile from James Hiram Copeland and his first wife, Ruth Keeler. Minnie and Bert Wilson Copeland (son of James H. and Ruth Keeler Copeland) were second cousins." At some time in the distant past, I added this notation: "Bert Copeland, b. 1879, son of-- "James Copeland and Ruth Keeler, son of-- "Hugh Copeland and Sarah Turbeyville, son of-- "Hugh Copeland (1785 - 1873) and wife Charlotte who lived along the Bluff Road. Came from Putnam co., Ind." If this were correct in all ways, then your John Copeland would have been a son of Hugh Copeland and wife Charlotte. Right?
Sorry for such a delay in answering your question when you were so quick in answering mine. ....Your notes are basically correct except for your last....my ggrandfather John Copeland has no known connection to the Copelands' you have listed, ie, James Hiram, Hugh, etal. I have always thought there was a connection but the families always denied it and I have never been able to make a connection. My records show the spelling of Hiram to actually be Hirum and Turbeyville to be Tuberville. Question?....who was James Hiram's first wife?
