Surnames: Fletcher, Hill, Cornel, Holland Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/1742 Message Board Post: In her retirement, Mabel Bridges (4/6/1891 - 4/18/1976), using a card file, gathered notes on the earliest of the pioneers in Fremont county. I'm copying the following from Mabel's notes: 1851: Abraham Fletcher, who had resided in the vicinity since 1851, laid foundations of Plum Hollow in 1856, built first residence, opened the first store, and was first postmaster. Taught first school in his own house.--1881 Fremont County History, pages 611, 613. 1851: Abraham Fletcher came to Fremont county in 1851, located on a farm in Scott township, founded the village of Fremont City in June 1856, built the first house, the first store, taught the first school (in his home) and was the town's first postmaster.--Stanley, in the Sidney Argus-Herald of June 6, 1957, page 7. 1852: Fremont County Census, "Fulton township": A. This must be an incomplete census for Abraham Fletcher.--W.F.
