Author: farwellwalter Surnames: Lorimor Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.iowa.counties.fremont/3959.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Leo: Thanks for your interest in an airman from Fremont county, Iowa, during the second World War. The Lorimor's and the Farwells were neighbors north of Farragut, Iowa, for over a half century. There are no Farwells left there, and of the older Lorimors, only Shirley, the youngest child is yet living. Shirley, a beautiful red headed girl, was Queen of the Iowa State Fair at Des Moines about 1946. Gregg is the son of Fred's younger brother Tede. My acquaintance with the family reaches back to the 1930's. When I opened my e-mail and read your reply, I sent a copy to a son of Bert Lorimor, a younger brother of Fred's, who still lives at Farragut. Perhaps you will hear from him. For myself, I have a biographical page from a Fremont county history book which I will post to you. I think I can identify all of those in the picture.--Walter Farwell of Iowa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. As a native of Fremont Co., Iowa, USA I monitor this Message Board on a regular basis. So when I saw your post I thought it would be easier for me to provide a photo than for Walter to try to find one. The connection is that Fred Lorimor was my father's older brother. I have inherited a number of the old family photos and information, so if you would like more background I can probably provide it. I have a book titled "Into The Valley" which has a number of stories of actions of the troop carrier planes during World War II. In that book is a first hand account from Maj. Joe Beck, who was with Fred when their plane was shot down in 1944. Major Beck was captured by the Germans but later escaped. If it would be helpful to you I can scan some of the sections of this book which could be of interest. Yes, I would be very interested in receiving a photo of the plane after the crash. You can reach me directly at my E-Mail address at greggl4798@aol.com. Yours truly, Gregg Lorimor Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Lorimor. His name rings a bell to me as I'm researching WW11 aircrashes in the south-west part of Holland. Almost in my backyard is the former airfield of Haamstede where the C-47 crashed and Fred Lorimer was one of the crew. He was killed by German gunfire just after the crash of his plane. He had a bullet through his left side just below the ribs. During the war he was buried at the cemetry of Haamstede. I'm a voluantair of a dutch society Wings to Victory. It would be great if I had a photo of Lorimor to include in my report.
