    1. [IAFREMON] October Bazaar!
    2. Oregon Rain
    3. Good Morning, Iowa genealogists! You are invited to a October Bazaar!! That's right a 'October Bazaar'! Filled with wonderful IAGenWeb counties just waiting for one of you to take them home. No purchase necessary! Just Great fun to be had by all! Each booth at the bazaar displays one of IAGenWeb's six wonderful orphan counties! Our orphans are Audubon, Buena Vista, Greene, Guthrie, Lucas, Monroe and Warren. They come in various sizes, shapes and colors. You'll find something that will please everyone! Each of our six orphan counties are in need of a bit of TLC. Someone who loves genealogy, enjoys giving and likes sharing with others. If you adopt a county, you will benefit other researchers, join a great team of volunteers, as well as have an experience that's both fun and creative. What are the requirements you ask? An Internet connection, a very basic knowledge of HTML, and the ability (or willingness to learn) to FTP (upload) files to a server. Most of us started with our internet connection and a very shaky knowledge (some shakier than others) of the other two requirements. We learned on the job and kept learning, often from each other. There are no dumb questions and there is always someone handy to help answer a question. Many tips and helps are posted on the IAGenWeb Forum for all coordinators. If you're interested in hosting Audubon, Buena Vista, Greene, Guthrie, Lucas, Monroe and Warren counties email us for an application. We'd love to welcome you into our family! It you have an interest in adopting a county and it isn't available at this time you can ask to have your name placed on a waiting list and when your county of interest comes open we will contact you to see if you are still interested. There's a waiting list for every county in Iowa. This invitation is open also to any current county coordinators who would like to adopt a second county. Just email us and we will get an application to you! Conni Mac & Peggy IAGenWeb Welcome Hostesses welcome_to_iagenweb@iagenweb.org

Sept. 24, 2009. Thurman & Bartlett News, by Sharlyn Trudell. "Hills and Heritage Festival was a shining success".-- "Well, Thurman did it again. We had a wonderful Hills and Heritage Festival. It started out Friday night with dance at the old gym with the Forney Band from Missouri providing the music. I know everyone enjoyed the music. "Saturday was a very busy day for many of us. They started out the Festival Saturday night with the presentation of the American flag and the Native American flag and the American Legion flag. This presentation was done by a member of the a Native American Legion of the Pottawattamie Nation of Kansas. Jim Potter from the tribe talked on tribal ways and beliefs. The tribal members danced several dances including a round dance. "The drummers were very good, and they are a competitive group. They compete all over the country with other drum groups. "The crowd was invited to join with the tribal members in doing the native dances. Everyone who joined in seemed to have a good time. Laurie Stein joined in, and she sure did a good job keeping time to the beat of the drum...." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They are found in the report of the Canada Public Archives which have the call number of CD 3620 .A2 1884 On page 17, I read :--"LUSSAUDIERE. 1736. -- Jean-Bte. Jutras Desrosiers had acquired this fief from Paul-Francois Raimbault, Seigneur de Simblin, who held it from his father Pierre Raimbault....(An abstract follows which traces it back to 1672.--W.F.) In the following volume for 1885, page 60, I read: --"ISLAND OF ORLEANS. (1/2 the County of Saint-Laurent, or seigniory of Orleans Island, comprising the parishes of Saint Laurent and Saint Pierre.) Vol. V, p.37,--1781.--Rene Amable Durocher had purchased this part of the fief from Jean Mauvide who purchased in 1752 from M. Joseph-Ambroise Gaillard, priest, canon of the Cathedral Church of Quebec..." These Durochers would have been of the social class of the Canadian French which I now believe characterized those who lived around present day Thurman, Iowa. AND I believe this is the basis of their use of the French "dit".--W. F. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have traced JB Frapp Derocher back to the LAFLEUR DIT FRAPPE-DUROCHER line in Canada. We are struggling to identify his parents, we have narrowed it down to 2 possibilities. I would appreciate it if you could direct me to any additional information you have on JB or Josette. I have been getting much from your posts, however I do not want to miss any of it. You may email me directly at segageek@yahoo.com if you would like. Thank you so much, it is greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
