    1. Harley Hugh Brown: More information?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Brown, McMahon, Iiams Classification: Military Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/1711.18.1 Message Board Post: Jo: You ask if I might have more information regarding Harley Hugh Brown on this registry. Check his name via the SEARCH space provided at the top of where we post. (Of course, activate the circle for "Fremont Board", first.) By doing this, we find two more postings: (1)that H. H. B. had been assigned number 292, and that his postoffice address was Hamburg.....(2) The other result from our search regards the marriage of one of his daughters (?). Now, as regards information about any service he might have had, I have come to the conclusion that Fremont county records for World War 1 service men are practically non-existant. Only several years ago, the county was trying to come up with a list of men who had served! (The monument in the courthouse square was being renovated, and the identity of the men thereon named wasn't known. At the time, I was of the opinion that this roster was not county-wide, but named only local service men. Tom "Bum" Ives had come up to the Sidney school during the 1930's telling his audience--I was there--that the records had been destroyed--IF--ever they had been kept....And, I think the soldier's monument in the Thurman park names only local men, too.)) I am quite certain that No. 268 (Thomas Vance McMahon--a distant cousin) was a veteran of World War 1, but of course he could have volunteered......I have (1). a small notebook for items from W.W.1, so will have to get around to posting them. The notebook is NOT indexed, so I don't know who is mentioned. (2) I also have a large stack of loose pages of biographical information where I DO HAVE the names from all those notes i have kept over a half century, indexed. I have not looked there for your man.--Walter

    1. Father of Arthur Somners of Madison twp., Fremont county, dies.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Somners, Bunn, Swift, King, Jenkins Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/1734 Message Board Post: THE FREMONT COUNTY HERALD. 6/25/1903.--MORTUARY REPORT.--George Somners of Atchison county, Missouri, died Friday after a short illness. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and eleven children, all of whom were present at his funeral, but two, Hershel and Amos, residing in Idaho. Three of the children, Ben, Prudence and Claudia, were living at home at the time of their father's decease. Mrs. Sadie Bunn lives very near to her parent's home and Arthur resides in Madison township. Those who came from distant homes were Hugh and Milo, who live in Nebraska, Mrs. Patience Swift, from Winfield, Kas., and Mrs. Emma King of Red Oak. The family took the death of the husband and father very hard. The younger ones who had been at home during his declining years, found it especailly hard to control their grief. The funeral was held from the Locust Grove church Saturday, the sermon being preached by Rev. Merser of Northboro, assisted by Rev. Culver, of Shenandoah. A very large crowd of sympathetic friends were present. George Somners was born in Indiana in the year 1828 and was there wedded to Miss Susan Jenkins. They came to Atchison county, Missouri in 1879 and has since resided there, a prosperous farmer and highly respected citizen. By his death many people will lose an old esteemed friend.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Billeen, Hess, Lush, Farwell Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ok.2ADE/1711.7.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Kathy: I notice that when assignments of draft numbers were made during World War 1, that Billeen (# 957) had an address of Farragut, Hess (# 980) of Northboro (Missouri), and Lush (#985) also of Northboro. This means that Hess and Lush lived in southeastern Locust Grove, near the Missouri line. Since transportation at that time wasn't as mobile as now, I am wondering if there is information about these two in Atchison county, Missouri!?!? Their draft numbers were so far from the ones that were last called up, that I doubt there would be much chance of more information from that source. My dad's number was 871, and he said he was quite a ways away from those who were last to be called into service. (I wonder if I can find who the men were to be last called!) --Walter

I do have a copy of the Fremont Co Cemetery Book and would be happy to look and see if the persons you are looking for are listed in the book. I believe the cemeteries were walked but there are also some un-marked graves listed so I would figure the information also was taken from cemetery records.
