I have wonderd where you obtain the information you print here? I have been curious for many years about the Jesse Gresham buried in the Thurman cemetery in an unmarked grave. You mentioned him in this second G-names with Fremont County connections. The cemetery book says he was born July of 1882 and died Aug 1884. Gresham is one of my family names but they weren't in Fremont Co until the early 1930's when my father came to Fremont Co from Atchison Co KS. My question is, what do you think of the possibility of the family of Jesse Gresham passing through Fremont Co, perhpas enroute to NE, MO or KS and the child became sick and died there? We appreciate all your hard work. Mary H

The children I listed are included in the History of Fremont County, Iowa book. They would be the living children. The cemetery book for Fremont County lists the other children, who apparently died at a very young age, as their children as well. Thanks for the clarification.

Hello Listers, I recently received a copy of an obit for one of my husbands ancestors who died shortly after child birth. The father unable to take care of eight children, took only the two oldest boys. The rest especially the 2 week old infant was placed in the Orphans Home in Council Bluffs, IA. Does anyone out there have any knowledge of where records for this Orphans Home might be found? This would have happened in 1898. All help and suggestions appreciated. Shirley in OK.

My little branch left Virginia for Kentucky, then on to Iowa...from there they scattered...I do know a few ended up in Nebraska, somewhere, and even a couple returned to Kentucky. My grandparents left Iowa for California. I'm stuck because I have nothing on my great great grandfather before 1850, so all I know for sure is he was born in Virginia in 1801...I'm still searching for more information, but if it's out there, it's going to be as hard to find as the rest of my line....

Thanks for looking. I think a lot of preachers in those days were also farmers. The years are just not right to find Isaac Conner, I guess. He married Mariah (Reeves) Irwin in 1881 when they moved to Rawlings Kansas, where they lived until 1890. Mariah moved back to Fremont Co. Iowa in 1891 to reside with her brother Amos Reeves of Riverton, Fremont Co. Iowa. Best regards; Dave
